Biblically, I believe it was the jawbone....... Seriously, @Cody Fousnaugh , I've heard hip joint replacements are good for about ten years. Have you experienced any signs of deterioration? My wife's Mom had both done (all 3, actually, story for another post), and gets along much better, at least freer of pain than before. Frank
My hips is doing fine. If I do too much walking it will start "talking to me" some. I think the number of years a replacement is good can very well depend on how it's treated (as in too much physical exercise). I definitely don't jog or run on it. Both my hip replacement surgeon and rotator cuff surgeon warned me about fitness center exercises on equipment. I can walk on a treadmill (slowly), but no bench-pressing weights. Don't have to worry about the bench-pressing thing, b/c I don't do that stuff anyway.
Nobody in my family has ever had a hip replacement or knee replacement ....hope that holds true for me too. Why did you need a hip replacement @Cody Fousnaugh? The people I've heard that have had them was because they fell? Do hips start to hurt also with arthritis? I can't imagine my hips hurting....I can imagine knees hurting even though mine don't but I can picture it. Where is the pain in the hips?
I knew something was wrong when I couldn't swing my right leg up-and-over a new saddle I had bought in Colorado. I knew exactly what size/type of saddle I wanted when we bought it at a auction. It put it on a Saddle Stand at home and decided, a few days after buying it, to sit on it to see how it felt under me. Wife and I both noticed that I was walking with a little bit of a limp and that "limp" was getting worse. Had an x-ray done and it show absolutely no cartilage between the round hip bone and the socket it fit into. Surgeon told me I had Degenerative Bone Disease in the hip. Tried a cortisone shot, but didn't work. So, hip replacement was only thing left to do. The surgery and physical therapy put me out of work for 12 weeks, and when I did go back, I used a cane for walking for a week or so. The PT was definitely tough, but not as tough as post-surgery for rotator cuff.
Did it just come with age or did you injure it riding a lot? Just wondering why some people get it and some don't.
Age and bad osteoarthritis in the hip. The cartilage had completely worn away in the hip socket area. From all the years of riding and roping, I only fell off of my horse once. I strained my wrist then and had to wear a Velcro brace on it for awhile. Hip problem had nothing to do with me riding, at least that's what I was told. If the osteoarthritis gets real bad in my shoulder, a shoulder replacement would have to be done. Currently, shoulder just had mild osteoarthritis. Don't want it to get any worse!
Getting old sucks...while I can't complain about my hips and knees; my left shoulder and back are a problem. Hope your shoulder doesn't get worse, @Cody Fousnaugh ....shoulder replacement sounds painful...they're all painful but shoulder seems the worst!!
I’m nоt surе if thеrе is аn асtuаl сurе. If thеrе wаs, thеn pеоplе wоuldn’t hаvе аrthritis. I knоw sоmе pеоplе try tо switсh up thеir diеt sо thаt thеy еаt mоrе plаnt-bаsеd fооd instеаd оf grаins аnd thаt hеlps.
We both use Topricin Pain Relief Cream. Wife will also take one or two Motrin. I have 800mg Ibuprofen my VA doctor prescribes for me. Generally, only take one of those a day. My VA doctor told me that taking the 1 or 2 tablets, if I really need two, is ok, but not anymore. She told me she knows what is said about Ibuprofen, but not nearly as dangerous as perceived to be. I also take one tablet daily of Type II Collagen. So, what do you use for your arthritis pain?
Ive used everything ...some works, some doesn't. I just bought a cream with lidocaine and menthol. Icy Hot. Meh. I take Advil and on occasion pain meds. My pain is different in different areas...my main problem is my left shoulder and even hydrocodone doesn't really help that.
My main pain is in my left shoulder, where I had rotator cuff surgery in 2015. It's not real painful, just like an achy/annoying type pain, but I know when it's there. Depending on the weather, or ?, I can get some pain in the Stem area of my hip replacement. I also get a little achiness at times in my left foot, when I fell at that Halloween Party last year. It's all arthritis, in one type of another of arthritis. My VA doctor has been giving me a prescription of Tramadol 50mg, which is a very low mg of that med. Basically, I only take it when we are going to use the boat or go to the range.
Tramadol has been mentioned a few times by my dr but I looked it up and didn't like it for some reason. This was awhile ago. My shoulder pain has gotten worse and it's limiting my range of motion with that arm. It's a constant pain though...kind of dull.
You're scheduled for an MRI on the shoulder, right? That should tell you what's going on inside that shoulder. It can be/will be scary to find out the results, but basically necessary.
Had the MRI on Friday. 2 of them. My left shoulder and lower back. Have an appt with the pain dr to discuss the results on sept 20th. I can see my results if I sign on to their portal but I don't want to...I'll wait. No need to stress before my drs appt. I will be going next week to visit daughter and help move grandson to college in San Luis Obispo. Will be a fun trip, don't need anything spoiling it...like MRI results.
