One good measure is to refrain from eating foods that trigger arthritis attack. Ibuprofen, and other no-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) must always be taken in a full stomach because they cause thinning of the gastro-intestinal tract leading to ulcer but as @Cody Fousnaugh said the max effect is lessened.
Why does it seem like ALL foods can trigger arthritis pain?? As it is, we have to watch what we eat due to both of us being diabetic 2, I've heard so many Seniors say "hey, I've waited years to get to this age when I can eat what I want, quit working and get up when I want/go to bed when I want and so on. Now, I have to watch what I eat. Senior years are suppose to be enjoyable, aren't they?"
Ha ha @Cody Fousnaugh ...Ive always said to myself, can't wait to get old so I can eat all the crap I want...well, guess I'm not old enough yet because I still get upset if I gain weight. Maybe in my 80's I'll pig out...if I live that long and don't get diabetes.
When we lived in Colorado, we were much more active than we've been here, but then again, that was 10 years ago when we were both in our late 50's. We both know we have some extra weight on us, but, like yesterday, as we were pulling out of Walmart parking lot, a guy got out of his vehicle and sat in one of Walmarts electric carts. This guy was huge! I mean, more weight than wife and I put together. We were both shocked.
When I was 50, I was unable to walk very far because of knee pain. My Dr. advised me to get a bike and ride it every day. He said I needed to build up the muscles around my knee joints to support them. He recommended a bike because he said it was low impact and wouldn't harm my knees. So I bought an 18 speed mountain bike thinking that I would be able to find a gear low enough that I could ride for a while. At first it was on level roads and streets and gradually onto dirt trails and eventually into the hills. I really got into it and had no more knee pain! In winter I had an exercise bike. Since then I've worn out at least 6 exercise bikes. I've had osteoarthritis since I was 25 with severe periodic attacks and I used to take Ibuprofen but in recent years my Dr. has prescribed Diclofenic tablets to be taken with meals. It helps and I also have a prescription topical Diclofenic creme that I use on my hands and is absorbed through the skin. However, it's true, low-impact daily exercise really helps with osteoarthritis pain. Don't know about rheumatoid arthritis, that's a whole 'nother disease.
I don't ride a bike but I do strength exercises. I have been doing them since 1998. One of them is - hold your arms at your side with your hands out in front of you, tighten your buttock muscles, stand on your tiptoes, hold for a few seconds. Lower yourself. Twenty times is a rep. This is supposed to keep leg and buttock muscles strong. Other exercises involve using hand weights. I have never been able to ride a bike because of inner ear problems. I do have a three wheel bike that I rode until DH's health prevented me from using it. I guess I need to get it out and start riding it again. Like I said, since I have been taking the turmeric, I have absolutely no knee pain.
I was on Celebrex for some time and was switched to Arthrotec for years and recently was switched to Meloxicam.. They all work very well and they are all very similar.. They are anti-inflammatory and do the job....... Naturally I get them through a prescription which costs me $2.00 for 100 days supply....
When someone comes up with a OTC that will really stop the nagging type pain I get from arthritis and osteoarthritis, wife, myself among thousands of other Seniors will take it. Until then, "got to do what we got to do".
https://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Bio...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=E1NET7RTPNYTMBMKPQBW I wanted to share this with y'all. Reading the reviews shows this is very promising.
I don't know about the other things it mentions but it absolutely does work for arthritis in the knees. My BIl recently started taking it and I can see that he is walking much better. Being a stubborn, hard headed man, he says he can't see much difference but my sister and I can see a visible difference in how he walks.
My daughter has been using that for 3 years for the pain she now has in her fingers since the had them sewn back on after an accident...she swears by it..but she makes her own from Organic Golden paste.. and recently I have been using it too... my daughter says that if she forgets to take one (she takes a tiny coffee bean amount after every meal)... then she knows all about it because the aching starts...
@Chrissy Cross I love to pig out. With these buffet offers here, "2fer1", BOGO (Buy One Get One), how can one not partake? Overdo it, hate myself for lack of self-control, then fast for a day or so. Still believe in the long run it's "calories in- calories out" that counts. Frank
So, how is everyone's arthritis pain doing, for those that get that pain? Mine, in my left shoulder, and sometimes in my right, still goes on. Not serious pain, but still that "nagging-aching" type. Still have to take an 800mg ibuprofen or 5mg Tramadol. On the days I take the Tramadol, the med only lasts about 6 hours, then I have to take the ibuprofen. I also take 3 Glucosamine Sulfate (500mg each) per day, but they just don't seem to help with the pain. The cold weather, low elevation and high humidity here aren't helping at all. Summer seems to be much better for me here, even with the high humidity and low elevation. Just wish we could find something OTC or online that would help, without spending $40 each month.
