On 5-1-1898 at 0530, Admiral George Dewey, on the USS Olympic, opened fire on the Spanish Battle Fleet.

"Oh dewy was the morning upon the First of May,
And Dewey was the Admiral down in Manila bay.
And dewy were the Spaniards' eyes, those orbs of black and blue,
And dew we feel discouraged? I dew not think we dew!"

Dewey's fleet turned the Spanish fleet into junk...check out the news pictures!

On 7-3-1898, Admiral Sampson, aboard the USS Oregon, sunk all 6 Spanish Battle Cruisers, ending the Spanish-American War and winning the Phillippines and securing Cuba as war prizes.

Check the video of the battle!

You can tour the Olympia where it is moored in Philadelphia. A real window to the past.
