    I also looked and though familiar sounding, I haven’t found it either. I am sure though that the line is somewhere in his poems but there are about 75 of those to peruse.
    As a last ditch effort, I think @Ken Anderson has a program that detects plagiarism wherein a line or two might bring up the original.

    Graduating from high school, we were supposed to chose a quote to put by our yearbook picture. It was an all girl school so there was a lot of poetry, Shakespear, and the Bible. I chose "I know you believe you understand what you think I said but I am not sure you understand that what you heard was not what I meant." It definitely suited me though I don't know who said it first.
