No one ever came up with a decent bill that would be embraced by everyone. This idea of a national sales tax sounds like a good idea, because all of us would be paying the same. Even the non working and winos would be helping to pay. Today there don't seem to be any common ground but a lot of dysfunction with people who have no business in government.
I always thought a flat rate income tax for everyone... say 10% or whatever. If you make $10 or a few million, you pay 10%. No exemptions.
The last "Fair Tax" proposal I saw was a 17% transaction tax and a refund of the taxes on the first $35,000 spent. It may have all changed now, but that was once proposed. No exceptions or exemptions.
No matter what bill the House proposes including the latest vote to withhold the money to hire 87K new IRS agents, it still has to land on Joe Biden’s desk. I guess that is when we’ll find out if the majority Republican House has what it takes to stand their ground or lay down as they as known to do.
The spending bills (we o longer do budgets) still have to originate in the House. The House could just leave the funding of the IRS Agents out of the bill, and, while they could still work, they wouldn't be paid and that would discourage most form coming to work to harass their fellow citizens.

More classified documents found at Biden's residence today... Sat, January 21, 2023 at 6:05 PM CST WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department has searched President Joe Biden’s home in Delaware and located six documents containing classification markings and also took possession of some of his notes, the president’s lawyer said Saturday. Bob Bauer, a lawyer for the president, said the Justice Department conducted the search at Biden’s Wilmington residence on Friday. He said it lasted about 13 hours.
More documents found, this time somewhere in Chinatown. I don't know if he left classified documents behind in a restaurant or what, but it turns out that he hired someone recommended by Hunter Biden to pack up his papers. Unlike with Trump, however, Biden is allowed to let his own attorneys do the searches, so we'll never know what's not being turned in.
I still can’t figure out how Biden’s attorneys got need to know clearances. I understand attorney / client privilege but all of his attorneys suddenly have security clearances?
While Trump's lawyers weren't even allowed to be in the building while the FBI raided his home, Biden's attorneys are allowed to do the searches for his hoarding of classified documents.
