The second full moon of this month, called the blue moon is shining brightly right into my bedroom. My phone took pictures but my upload wire isn't working. I'll have to get a new one. Til then I'll try to send it to my email and transfer it that way. It's a beauty, but not blue at all. Only has that designation due to its appearance twice in one month.
I had the impulse to sing "Blue Moon" when I heard that, but I found that I only knew two of the words. I didn't let that stop me but the song could have gone on longer if I could have remembered more of the words.
I was looking at the moon a few minutes ago and thinking that it just looks like the moon. Nothing "blue" about it from where I'm standing.
I got up at 3AM this morning and it looked like broad daylight outside. I almost took a pic, but similar pics I've taken with my consumer equipment don't really capture the spirit. I don't ever recall the moonlight being so intense. I would have gone out and walked around if it hadn't been in the 30s here.
Well, that just sucks. I'll never say 'Once in a blue moon.' again since it happens more than I thought which was 'never.'
My band played the hell out of "Blue Moon." I gave up the lead vocal so I could do the bass vocals, including the famous intro line.
Oh Ken, go ahead and make up your own. To get you started, It's Blue moon, you saw me standing alone, without a song in my heart, without a love of my own, and now just run with it. We won't judge.
I really like that tune, and it always packed the floor when we played it. The guy who sang lead went on to play with George Strait for ten years. Good guy, great musician!
I've had friends in the industry. I helped one build out a small recording room in his basement (silicone spacers on the framing, acoustic deadening all over the place, 4 track Tascam + a ton of other gear) so he could record his own backup music, mix it to cassette tape, then take it to jobs. He would sing and sometimes play guitar on site. I would help him record and then mix the stuff to cassette. This was an after-work-hours thing for both of us. Subscribed to Modern Recording at the time. I really enjoyed it. But I'd die happy if I never heard Mister Bojangles ever again. Another friend was a well-known local guy in the DC area who would get calls to drive out-of-state to play in studio bands. His full-time gig was that of programmer. He took (takes?) lessons from Bill Kirchen. I've lost touch since I moved. You and I both know that the successful entertainers we see are a fraction of a percent of the talent in this country/world, that the famous ones ain't necessarily the best, and the guy who comes over to snake out toilet might be better than most of what we hear on the radio.
There is a barn near the Dells here that has a variety show of 'unknowns' and they are all great. I was wondering what would make them 'knowns'. They deserve it as much if not more.
I find it fascinating to know there are so many talented "regular people" that walk among us, in all sorts of art forms.
