Today at 11pm we leave the EU - free - free at last There will be a party tonight at Parliament Square, wish I could be there We have printed a large 'YAY' poster to go up at the window
Brexiteers describe themselves as being "on the right side of history" again and say that it feels good. I was asking myself how come that some people, maybe nations, always know with the sureness of a sleepwalker what the right side of history is und will be? My nation was once on the wrong side of history. Then one part of my nation (Eastern Germany where I had to grow up) was again on the wrong side. Now it turns out I, again, seem to belong to the wrong side of history. It does not feel good. So how can all that be accounted for? Since this is a discussion forum I shall pull out all the available stops NOT to get into a conversation about that. All purely rhetorical. Mere reflexion. Just saying.
All countries have to decide for themselves on the EU The 'remainers' benefited well from the EU - joe public saw little benefit It really is as simple as that Leavers love 'Europe' but dislike the EU
I'm happy that you've thrown off the yoke of the EU. We're grappling with the product of our education system that gave, and continues to give, credence to the people in favor of complete government control of our lives.
I voted to leave three years ago. And I was called STUPID and a RACIST and an old fart and scum My daughter voted to stay and was not so happy with the out come of The Ref but to her credit in what the majority of the country voted for was out and backs that...some others did not An Aside She has voted Labour all her life but this time voted Green.
Thomas, I'll admit to being sorely ignorant of exactly what BREXIT will ultimately mean for Europe, but I wonder if you'd expound on exactly why you are on "the wrong side of history?" (And I'm not meaning to stir up anything; I'm simply curious about your post.)
Thomas, I think the expression, "on the right side of history," is merely a common statement made when a victory is achieved in the government sense. As for your being on the "wrong side of history," well, again it was a result of a terrible war that cost nearly every nation involved dearly. That includes Germany. It is a term not to be taken literally, for history is history. No right or wrong side at all. It exists, we should study it, learn from it, and improve our present as a result.
