I agree. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I do love the smell of it. oddly in Spain, Turkey, Italy and Greece where the coffee is served up in tiny coffee cups with large glasses of water on the side, due to it's immense strength, and almost as thick as black treacle, there's little or no smell...
To me to get coffee to taste as good as it smells while brewing ...is learning how to make it the perfect strength for your taste buds. For my Honey and me I have that perfected and while I love a little flavored creamer in mine, my Honey drinks his with just a little sugar. The taste also depends on the roast you brew...no dark roast for us.
Concerning coffee strange thing happened to me. When I was in rehab after having my cervical spine rebuilt the coffee they served was horrible & even the smell turned me off to wanting to drink it. When I came home the brewed coffee Colombian supreme dark roast freshly ground had the same effect, couldn't take the smell. The strange thing is before surgery I took a blood pressure med. After surgery & no coffee no need for blood pressure med. Nothing changed, weight & diet the same except no coffee.
When I was in the Air Force and stationed down south in Alabama, it was impossible to get a cup of coffee without chickory in it. Now, the coffee smelled delicious while it was brewing but was horrible tasting. When I came home on leave and complained about it to my mom, she thought I was nuts. I never knew she loved chickory in her coffee as we did not have it at home. She was from Philadelphia, and as far as I'm concerned, that's the South to me. I kid my cousins about that all the time.
Yes I know....but I never did care what other people think or in this case do...and I'm not drinking coffee as thick as mud for any reason!
I have an electric percolator, but I have been thinking about getting a small stovetop one to use instead. It makes great coffee, but is harder to take apart and clean than the little drip coffee maker that I have been using most of the time. We went to Walmart this morning, and they had some of the chocolate peppermint Christmas coffee on sale, so I got a package of that, and I am drinking a nice hot mug of it right now, as I write. I added a little extra chocolate, and it tastes wonderful, and the aroma Is incredible !
A little bit of chicory smooths out the taste of the coffee. Too much of it has the opposite effect. How much is too much is probably a matter of taste, but I nearly always add a pinch or two of chicory to the coffee grounds before brewing.
I have a Krups coffee pot. Pre-setting it is easy and it keep the coffee warm for 4 hours, instead of the regular 2 hours.
I get a bag of this every other Thursday. A gift it is and I might say a fine coffee. I'm going to make a cup here shortly and have a piece of Pumpkin pie with it. Is life good or what?
