Costco is merely trying to get you set up for the next health risk. Did they send a few sleeves of large coffee filters in case the TP runs out?
The Coffee Fool blend is one that I have had before, but this is the first time I have ordered anything from Stumptown.
The Stumptown coffee came out very light. Using the same amount of ground coffee as I usually do, I could see through the pot, and it tastes a bit like lightly flavored hot water. It's not a bad taste, but I'm not sure that I could call it coffee. Maybe I'll try grinding the beans finer on the next pot. If that doesn't help, I'll use the rest of the bag to tamper down some of the too-strong coffee that I have.
No, but they did tell me to keep the extra case of coffee, which was very sporting of them. ($39 a box so not too shabby.)
Ugh, I hate weak coffee. I notice that bag has the "creamy and caramel" description... is that just more Coffee Snob frippery or is it an actual flavored coffee?
Today I changed the setting on my grinder to a little coarser grind and used the Peet's Major Dickson's Blend beans. I think this was my best pot of coffee from the Bunn yet. I still have several bags of different brands of beans to try, but I put the Peets on my auto delivery order from Amazon. In other news, I got an email from Black Rifle that they are having a year-end clearance sale.
I told you the coarser grinds were better. Actually, I guess it depends on the coffee; a finer grind works better for that new stuff I bought, but I usually use a coarse grind, having tried several settings. From what you've said about what you like, I think you'd like most anything from Black Rifle.
Paging @John Brunner -- have you decided to keep the coffeemaker? Did you ever get a good tasting brew?
Well...I have been laying off the expensive stuff and the Bonavita until things right themselves. I've been taking zinc every night to see if that helps. My 8 O'Clock in the Mr. Coffee stopped tasting horrible a few days ago, and I got a cup of McDonald's coffee yesterday and it tasted weak but not awful like it did last time. Today I tried one of my high-end fresh-roasted coffees in the Mr. Coffee and it was not real good...it was not horrible, but it was not a good cup of coffee. I really think it's me. I'm gonna play around with the Bonavita tomorrow and hope that the strong extract of the high temps doesn't make me relapse. I have a doctor's appointment early next month and am gonna mention this. But knowing my G.P., he's gonna just refer me out to a specialist. The cardiologist I was seeing says that he thinks my "stroke" of last January may have been neurological, but he never recommended seeing a neurologist. But who knows..."diagnosis by exclusion" and all that. I can't believe this is related. It's so long afterwards and it's such a narrow thing.
I'm sticking with my Mr. Coffee for a while until I'm sure my taste buds have returned to their rightful state of being. Sometimes it tastes OK, sometimes not. I have noticed that the Cuisinart grinder is WAY louder than the Black & Decker I had...WAAAYYYY louder. It's not as though I really care...but it's WAAYYYY louder. I don't have the specs, but it's possible that the RPMs on it are higher. And it's certainly larger and has more plastic "echo chamber" cubic inches to it, between the huge hopper, the motor housing, and the large output container. I've commented on my following the recommendation to weigh my coffee. I've found a less esoteric benefit to doing this. It really helps keep the mess down when I weight the beans and THEN grind them. I get the exact amount I need without any leftover ground coffee to mess with/go stale, and without scooping ground coffee out of the container...I just dump the entire container contents right into the filter. I've also bought one of these to set the grinder on so that coffee dust does not migrate all over my countertop: Less than $2 at my local Walmart.
I'm very pleased with my Capresso grinder. It is quiet and efficient, and I haven't had any problem at all with "coffee dust." I learned to give it a "slap" on each side before removing the ground coffee hopper, which seems to help everything clear the chute and keeps static to a minimum. I don't weigh anything; I just measure 5 scoops of beans which seems to roughly equal 4 scoops of ground coffee. That plus 20 oz of water makes good stuff. I added a container of that "Groundz" grinder cleaner to my last subscribe and save order; it got here without damage this time. Haven't used it yet, though.
