Since I got to skip last week's chemo (thanks, winter storm!), coffee tastes pretty good this week. It's the small things in life, I gotta tell ya.
The illy coffee is brewing now, but I haven't tasted it yet. I was a little disappointed that the can was dented, as I usually save metal cans like that to put old coins in or something, but I don't want to save a dented can. That's not a big deal, but still. Usually, when I open a package of coffee for the first time, I like the aroma of the beans. That wasn't the case with this stuff. It wasn't putrid or anything but it was more harsh than pleasant. I am thinking I'm not going to like it, but I'll let you know. I'll have to drink it anyhow because these are nearly the only whole beans that I have right now and they pushed back the delivery of the other coffee that I ordered at the same time to Friday, whereas it was supposed to come tomorrow. Our grocery store quit carrying whole bean coffee.
Okay, on the illy stuff. It could be worse. It could taste like it smells but instead, it tastes pretty much like hot water with just a hint of coffee. I won't be ordering it again.
Ick; I hate weak coffee. I notice that it is "classic" roast; is that like medium or what? Do you think if you ground it finer and used a bit more it would have more body? This is why I hate buying new coffees; if I don't like it, that's money down the drain.
It has a roast scale chart thing on the can that shows it as being just a little bit above medium. By taste, it's very light. I have a little bit left of the espresso beans that I guess I'll mix it with until something else comes in. I normally like a light roast, although I do okay with a medium roast, but this is way too light.
The Henry's House of Coffee stuff came a day early, which is actually the day that it was originally scheduled to be here. It smelled good out of the package and I just brewed a pot, and it tastes pretty good. It's not like the best coffee I've ever had, but it tastes pretty good, overall. If I still like it by the time I finish this pot, I might order some more sometime.
I rejoined Black Rifle Coffee, which is where they send two packages of coffee each month, and what I get is a surprise to me. I think I can go in and make my own selection if I want to but I haven't had anything from them that I disliked, although there are some that I like better than others. This month, I received Beyond Black, which I have had a couple of times before, along with a new one - Flying Elk Coffee, which smells terrific out of the package. It's a light roast and my first pot is brewing right now. With the light roasts, I choose the Rich Brew option on my Ninja coffeemaker, and it usually comes out pretty good. It's not bad. I think maybe I prefer the Silencer Smooth to it, but I wouldn't mind getting this again. Sometimes I can't tell from the first few sips though.
I was running low on coffee so I bought a bag of Starbucks French Roast at our local grocery store because that was the only whole bean coffee they had. I am brewing a pot now but I am not holding out much hope for it, in part because I don't even like the coffee that Starbucks serves at its coffee shops, but also because, when I opened the package, it smelled like there might be a dead rat in the bottom of the bag. I almost gagged from the smell of the beans. Nevertheless, I am running low so I will give it a try.
On the rare occasion that I have gone to Starbucks, I have liked their regular house coffee OK. Overpriced, of course. But none of the "home brew" Starbucks have been worth buying, IMO. Since I've been on chemo, I don't drink coffee nearly as much because it has a weird taste. I still have my "first cup of the day" but that's pretty much it. So our stockpile of coffee is getting unwieldy; I had to pause some auto-deliveries till I get my tastebuds back.
It's pretty bad. I think I can drink it but it's like something you might get with your rotisserie hotdog at a gas station. Whatever is left after my next order of real coffee arrives will probably be composted.
Black Rifle coffee is good My #1 in Community Dark I do have a grinder and have tried the whole bean as well as pre ground, like both Drinking here now is Kirkland from Costco, not bad at all, the worst I ever has was Edwards from Safeway. Many years ago, Farmers also is good when I could find it, I DO NOT care for Starbucks at all.
