    oops, out of sequence again...

I fired a shot in the air to help shoo off the bear which woke up my cantankerous mule who bit me gently for food. I fed him.
    He misses Ginger too.

Yup, we sure showed thst bear off Craig says Terence slowly walking around the main fire with a firebrand and a drawn Shinning Bowie knife. Even an unused fancy sword swinging on his left side. A walking armory and a unseen six shooter colt handgun with a silver handle he shows you both. Ever silver bullets he boasts quietly to Shirley, Vampires!

I'm so glad that Terence didn't shoot that bear. It turns out that it was a Mama bear with cubs. Killing her would have left them orphans.

She and they skedaddled back into the forest to eat their fill of early bearing berries.

Vampires? Do we have vampires in the Great Smoky Mountains? Maybe that's why Crazy Uncle Eddie was crazy....... from fighting off vampires!...... :D

Terence can get a bit trigger happy. Yes the black bear has a fearsome reputation. But it attacks only to protect its family and habitat.

I don't know why it's spelled Smoky but it was named Smoky because there is often a smoke like haze there. Somebody way back in the olden days named it.

While we were sleeping a warm front came in from the south. That happens a lot in NC. :) All the snow melted. We walked along singing a happy little song.

We soon came to a bridge.

Soon we spotted an old cabin.

The old man inside said, "Yeyah, I knew Crazy Eddie. He lived up in the next hollar." "But watch out for vampires. You'll be OK as long as it's daylight. They only come out at night."

    Hmmmmmmm????

Didn't you know vampires can fly? :) More likely, though, they flew into RDU by plane and drove up into the mountains.

I brought along a book, just in case we needed it.

May be the same reason we call our range north of Sydney the Blue Mountains.
RDU? Vampires dont fly.. vampire bats do. Dont you know your Dracula history.;).

With dusk drawing near we closed in on the mad uncles cabin was when we heard a loud moaning coming from just over a ridge, then we saw this apparition appear then disappear.....

    RDU = Raleigh Durham Airport

As we approached, we saw smoke coming from the chimney.

Who knows? They say he was crazy. Maybe he was but maybe he wasn't so crazy, after all. Shall we go down to the cabin and see who has a fire in the fireplace?

When we arrived at the cabin there was a piece of paper pinned to an old wooden table. The note read, "For my grand niece Shirley only. My dear little Shirley whatever you do dont trust Ernie.. he is a lyin', connivin' varmit that plotted to kill me for my money. There is no curse.. that was to scare away Ernie but there is a money tree. I will send you a clue to the tree's whereabouts shortly. Always, your great uncle Eddie". PS: Burn this so no one else will see it.
