There's such truth in that Old patsy Cline song when it comes to many ''Christians'' .... Dear God!

I go to church on a Sunday
The vows that I make I break them on Monday.
The rest of the week I do as I please Then come Sunday morning I pray on my knees.

Chorus: Dear God I know I'm not worthy But I need you so Please won't you hurry. And help me turn back from The path I have trod You'll never be sorry Dear God. ---

--- Each day we read in the paper Of the carryin's on Of some of our neighbors
We're sinnin', and lyin', And forgetting the faith
Then we have the nerve To ask is it too late?

I have to agree that many "Christians" do use profanity. Most won't admit it because like the rest of society many are hypocrites. Sorry but that has been my experience. I personally am not religious.

I remember a old country son some of the lyric is:
I'm a plain old country boy
    A cornbread lovin' country boy
    I raise Cain on Saturday
But I go to church on Sunday
It was written and sung by "Little" Jimmy Dickens

@Holly Saunders - so true Holly. Noticed this right from a kid !
My family were church goers, but did their sinning through the week, come 'confession' day all was
wiped clean so they could start the whole process over again :p

"Profanity" is in the ear of the be-hearer. "Profane". Immoral? Unacceptable? Offensive? Beleaguering? Painful to the psyche of those embroiled in an endless turmoil of determination of what ought not be uttered.

My Grandpa called it "Bool-sheet". (Czech-English misalignment).

I think this really happens today as well. Sin, sin, sin and then go to church on Sunday and all of that is forgiven. Then, start all over again. Just wonder how many people go to church today to actually worship God? Sure are a lot, and I do mean A LOT, of folks who go to these big churches today.

I often wondered what Jesus Christ the carpenter would say if he hit his finger with a hammer

Out of curiosity, Frank, are we putting down those that don't like profanity???? There are a lot of folks that don't.

No, not "WE". I issued the statement. My intent was to point out that given the "state" of Society today, escaping from profanity is impossible almost. Thus, if one dislikes it, such a stand is perfectly acceptable. But expecting folks to behave in one manner when in the presence of one kind of belief, and then in another manner when in the presence of other belief, is simply not achievable.

I understand, Frank. Also, some people reference a single person as “we”. Just to let you know.

And, there are small towns throughout America where cussing is at a minimal, if any. There are organizations like 4-H and FFA that don’t allow profanity and push youths not to use it at any time. Farm and ranch parents don’t use it and teach their kids not to.
IOW, a lot of profanity/cussing seems to be centered in/around the big cities in America.

The most cussin' I do is a well placed damn once in a while. I am smart enough to know enough words to express myself without using profanity. I guess you can call me an old dried up prude.:D I got it from Mama. I would never have even said the word, "Sex" in front of her. I guess she thought my children were conceived by immaculate conception. ;)

@Cody Fousnaugh "IOW, a lot of profanity/cussing seems to be centered in/around the big cities in America."

True, beyond a doubt. Too many rats confined to a cage soon begin killing one another, thus providing more food and more comfortable living conditions for those remaining. Proven fact. Rats are pretty smart mammals. A rat having detected poison on "baited food" will pee on it to warn the others off. They will not touch it. Proven fact. Many humans are also pretty smart mammals. All things societally of poor taste and unacceptable behavior are statistically proven higher in the big cities.

Thus, I prefer rural or semi-rural living. Unfortunately, I still cuss. It has been decided beforehand that my tombstone (if one exists) will be inscribed "He Swore a Lot".
