Well I hope she brings that squirrel home as her new best friend and not what she "bagged" from a hunt.
At this point in life, at least, Ella trusts me. Someone was shooting firecrackers off outside and she looked at me immediately to see if it was something she should be concerned about. Satisfied that all was well, she laid her head back down.
I guess Cutie still knows how to get around a hot day. She wanted to go out today so her and Ella were outside, and it's pretty hot for Maine today. When I went to check on her a few moments ago, she was soaking wet, apparently playing in the sprinkler. I could say that's not bad for a 26 year-old, or I might wonder if she just wandered into it by mistake.
@Ken Anderson , Cats have the best reaction time to a surprise happening than any animal I've ever seen. So I would imaging you first suggestion was right on target. It can be really hard to get a kitty wet if they don't wish to be wet.
Twice today, I went out to check on Ella and found her sitting on the railing of our fire escape, a few feet away from her friend, the squirrel. Eventually, she's going to want to do a sleep-over.
Sadly, Lydia passed away while we were gone, so I'm feeling pretty guilty about not being here for her. I couldn't have prevented her death of course, but I would have liked to have been with her. We had someone coming in every day to give them fresh food and water, and to clean up the litter boxes, but Lydia always hid while she was here. It looks like she died peacefully but probably not in her sleep because she was lying on my bathroom floor, which is not where she would choose to sleep. I am going to miss her, as she has been with me for two months short of twenty-seven years.
@Ken Anderson ...oh so very sorry Ken .How painful for you. 27 years is a long time...maybe she was just to tried to carry on. I feel your pain
Oh Ken I too join in with Gloria and Chrissy in knowing that you’re loss is deeply felt. We love our babies whether they be kitties, puppies, or birds. We invest so much of our emotions in them that of course the pain of loosing them can be as devastating as any other loss. Remember you gave your kitty the best life possible, so you couldn’t have done better.
@Ken Anderson 27 years! My gosh, how I feel for you. All I can say, Ken, is that I know full-well the deep mental misery associated, having held my beloved little "Chip" in my arms as she died. The pain is deep..... Frank
I know that you have said before that Lydia was not doing well, but even when we know a beloved pet does not have much longer to live, it is still heartbreaking when we lose them, and I can relate to your feeling of sorrow, as the others have also mentioned . Even though you weren’t there, I believe that she would have wanted to die peacefully at home, and not in a cage at a veterinary office somewhere, and at least she passed away peacefully, maybe her heart just stopped. Sending prayers and condolences to both you and Michelle for your loss of Lydia.....
I'm just seeing this now @Ken Anderson and I just wanted to tell you I'm so sorry for your loss. I know you love Lydia and will miss her as she has been part of your life for a very long time. Praying comfort and peace for you.
So sorry. What a long life. Please don't feel guilty but I know it's natural. She was in her own familiar home. I wonder if she was looking for a cooler place. When Chloe died she came out of her covered bed to the floor and this was January. Very sorry for your loss. It's always so hard.
Thinking of your loss of Lydia this morning and praying God's comfort and peace for your heart @Ken Anderson.
