Well...you are lucky. I had the unpleasant experience o bumping into an obnoxious, toxic, very unpleasant narcissist; he is a friend' s hubby. His personality is so repulsive I left my friend's home and I cut all ties with her to prevent having to see him again.

Eye of the Beholder, or to put it in a modern vernacular, Confirmation Bias.

That being said, there are objective criteria that some people seem to meet.

    Oh, yeah. No doubt.

Earning a label requires consistency over a period of time.

    That too.
My aunt once told me a story about a man who kept moving because the people were so bad in every town he lived in. Of course she told us it was the man not the town people's he lived in [ my short version of the story. Aunt Emily lived to be 100.

When most people share the "eye of the beholder"s feelings I say the "eye" is right.

    I don't know about that.
-I have been in positions where nothing I did was right because of the personal feelings of others.
-I have been in positions where I could do no wrong because of the personal feelings of others.

There certainly are clear-cut cases of fill-in-the-blank, but there are way more instances of seeing what we want to see...and it cuts both ways. It's part of being human. I do it. Like everything else, the first step to mitigation is awareness.

In most of these cases John its those on the inside who are forgiven and those on the outside who aren't.If your in the clique or club aka COC :p you can say or feel the same way those who are not in it and be praised but if not your be ridiculed or rejected like the plaque.Human nature?

Is not what we "want to see but "what we see" and right or wrong we react accordingly
