When I was younger I always used to think dining alone was terrible. You’d have to be a Johnny-no-mates to do that, but gradually as I turn into a cantankerous old chap I can see the appeal. A half empty restaurant, no worries about who wants what wine so you can have white or red if you want, the chance to read a book in peace and have your meal brought to you. It certain has its advantages… except for the bloke outside with a camera determined to get a picture of you. If only he would go away…
