    In Missouri, for a few days' time each year, huge swarms of them appeared, even though the only body of water nearby was our creek.

    Here in AZ, of course, we are near the Colorado River, and seeing them there is commonplace. Occasionally, one will dive bomb our little pool! For reasons unknown, my Mother called them "ear-stingers".

    I have heard about red ones before, but I have only ever seen the blue ones. Awesome pictures, @Shirley Martin ! !
