    @Eric Cook
    Exactly how I felt back in '76 when my wife much less pointedly said basically the same thing. I was devastated. We sold the house we had built, divvied up the spoils, and I continued on pursuing my Degree. My Mother, shocked when she heard, volunteered to come live with me, housekeeper she called it. I almost gave up on the schooling, only about 15 credit-hours away, but fortunately had a most inspiring Advisor. I thought my world had collapsed, but forced myself to live with the reality of it, like it or not. 40+ years, and still aching........

    @Eric Cook - I agree the term 'move on' can be empty without expanding on it
    You have lost a cherished love which is no different to losing a loved one in the sense of passing over
    You have done much in your life so you haven't exactly given up, but nothing, so far, has filled the emptiness
    I hope you never give up and you do find that 'something'

    Some folks say that I' a tough, ornery old guy. I was once bitten by a rattle snake. After 3 days of intense pain, the snake died.

    Moving on and letting go is a one day at a time, step by step process...there's no real moving on without letting go either. There also will not be another love if you still are keeping your past locked in your heart, and won't let go of the memories of her either.

    There is only one I know who can help you move on and let go and heal the pain and wounds she left you with too...that would be our heavenly Father God.

    What are the chances that you would be able to see your ex? If there is a possibility that could be the reason for the dreams of her. Either that or you are doing a real good job of staying away from her.

    Even a hint of hope can either create havoc or some peace.

    I suppose it is remotely possible that I could locate her. But I would not do that for several reasons. 1st I wouldn't want to bother her. 2nd, it would be too rough on me emotionally, unless she contacted me and wanted to see me. I'll tell you one thing, however. I'd literally give my left arm just to sit with her and talk. There is much I wish to say. I never felt like there was any closure. And that has eaten at me for 25 years.

    You could search online and contact her electronically, just don't be upset if she doesn't respond. A text or email, or even a Facebook friend request probably wouldn't hurt anything. It would just let her know that you are thinking of her. I guess you could've sent an Easter card (either email or paper) if you could find her.

    It is nowhere near as easy as people think to find someone online. I once tried to find a friend I had in my 20's and it was impossible. A name is NOT enough. Even with a birth date, it is STILL not enough. How much harder would it be to find a woman who has changed her last name ?
    Perhaps if I was willing to spend thousands of dollars and hire a detective agency they might have a chance.

    Oh she can be found. I was a skiptracer when I worked for a collection agency and there are so many ways to find someone who didn't pay money owed.

    I have found lots of people. Sometimes it just requires a few bucks. See Von Jones' post.
