"Ken Anderson, It may not be the right thread but... Can an indoor cat get fleas? My other five cats never got fleas but I think Lucas did. He never goes out. Tks.
Yes, but it's less likely. If you live near someone else whose pets have fleas, they might visit your house and your cat, or they could come in on another pet or even a wild animal, such as a mouse. For that matter, I suppose wild animals might carry them up near your house and they might find their way in. But the chances are good that an indoor cat won't have a flea problem.
Thanks, I live in an apartment and no other pets come "to visit"...and Lucas never goes out. My other cats never had a fleas problem but I think Lucas does. I will see a vet.
I know...but Lucas never goes out. Is there any product I may use to prevent fleas? I never needed to get any with my other cats.
There are plenty of poisons, but my experience has been that if I feed my cats wholesome food, they don't get fleas, even when I was letting them outside. Otherwise, there are natural products that are said to repel fleas, such as cloves. A search on Amazon for "natural flea repellent" will yield several results, but I can't vouch for them because I haven't used them.
Lucas eats the same food I fed the other cats -one for 22 years. I will check about cloves and other natural foods. My late husband was very good about cats and everything related to them....but since we never had problems I don't have any experience about fleas (grrrrrrrrrrrrr) .TKS.
Three floors of places to be, including 15-16 cat beds, a couple of real beds, two window seats, a couple of reclining chairs, and yet there's no room for my keyboard on my desk.
That Blue colored dish soap "Dawn" is a killer for fleas. A good bath and allow it to stay on until almost dry before washing. It is not harmful to pets and a flea is usually dead after contact. Baking soda and salt mixed in a fruit jar with small holes punched in the lid for sprinkling is recommended for large infestation. The baking soda dries the fleas out and they're a goner. I tried that flea collar but it is so strong I thought to myself no way I would want that around my neck to burn my eyes and suffocate me so I just put them on my TV table. One thing for sure, in a couple months it will be so cold the fleas won't make it. I do not have a warm place except in my bedroom, I can control any that should show up during winter but I would bet after one freeze they are gone. I can't see how they could survive that seeing how small and tiny they are. They can't fly but only jump a foot or maybe a foot and a half. Water is a natural trap for them, they will jump into the water and drown. They gather at any bright light etc. My cats got educated real soon and I once thought they were chasing each other playing when all they were doing is running down the hall a hundred miles an hour so the fleas don't have a chance to jump on them. They also prefer high places knowing the fleas can't jump that high.
I have so much computer gear I bought a new blank closet door and then 4 saw horse brackets and two 2x4s, making a long desk top that is just right to sit at, it holds a ton of weight safely and to be exact as how much weight.....4 towers, 2 27 inch monitors and 1 heavy HP LCD 21 inch monitor. Not to forget the 5.1 sound system with big woofer, the newest big modem router combo and assorted other smaller peripherals such as external hard drives and other things. AND I still don't have enough room ! I was going to get one of those large letter keyboards but never found the time to order it and recently like last year I purchased a led backlit keyboard which is very nice for my eyes. It is mechanical and has a very bad feel which is why I make mistakes typing which is usually a missing letter that I did hit it just wasn't hard enough hit. I make fewer mistakes using a membrane style keyboard. I learned to type when I was 13 at Junior High and boy am I glad I did.
