If I was a smoker, and loved smoking, I'd always make a reference to George Burns and just how many years he smoked cigars. Same went for Groucho Marx, but not as much as George Burns did.
Most people don't know my husband smokes. He doesn't smoke in public or in our house or vehicles so he doesn't have to deal with the judgement of the "Those Things Will Kill You" crowd.
Cody smoking was 'cool' when we were young, or at least that's what the tobacco company's advertisers said, of course most people smoked back then since women were now coming out of the cigarette closets too. I bought my first pack of cigarettes at 12 as did my 2 best friends same age, we girls all lied about our age on paper birth certificates, employers didn't care they liked to low wages. I wish I'd never smoked so far I've smoked 63 years so not quitting today, maybe someday.
Yes, I remember watching some game shows, back in the 60's, and most of the people were smoking cigarettes during the show. There were many heavy smokers back then, like Chuck Connors. In an interview, Johnny Crawford stated "every time there was a break, Chuck would light up a cigarette." Amanda Blake, aka Miss Kitty, was a heavy smoker as well (off/on the set). It seemed like, on stage, Dean Martin always had a cigarette and a drink (alcohol). Both actors, game show folks and singers smoked cigarettes back then. Both my dad and my step-dad smoked. My dad smoked Camel's (non-filters) and my step-dad smoked a pipe. Step-dad had a Pipe Rack with 4 pipes in it. It was very seldom that I seen him without a pipe in his mouth. As for myself, I started smoking in the Navy. Two things, when standing a Mid-Watch (11PM to 3:45AM) or 3:45AM to 7:45AM), would keep a Sailor awake: a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and a cigarette/cigarettes. Fortunately, in the Navy and following years, I'd only smoke about a pack and a half a week. A smoker would tell me, "Don't tell anyone you smoke, because you really don't. I smoke a pack and a half in one morning!". In early 2000, before meeting my wife, I stopped. It was really easy since I didn't smoke that much in the first place.
I guess my old childhood friend may have saved me some extra years by telling me never snake a to or near the filter tip.I pnly smoke half a cig or less, people say I waste them, but I just reply," so it's not wasting them if I inhale the whole cig?" I don't light up the next one any sooner. Also, for past 25 yr.s I used a tar block filter.
My goodness! Multitasking is out of the question for sure. Sorry for not reading over this post above before I hit post.
I think one of the main problems with our anxiety is listening to the NEWS and worrying about things we have no control whatsoever over. @Tony Page , @Cody Fousnaugh , hope both of you are ok and feeling better.
I completely agree with this, @Marie Mallery . I never watch television, and rarely listen to the news, except what I want to read on X (Twitter). On there, I can choose what news I want to hear and do not get the liberal media version of anything that is going on in the news, and I am a lot better that way. Most of the stuff they put on the news is nothing that effects how I will spend my day, and there is nothing I can do to change any of it, so I do not bother to listen to any of it.
