The family is back home. They all spent a month in Italy. Granddaughter spent a month in Spain
Training and dancing. She said it was the most fun she'd ever had. Grandson spent a month in England at Oxford, studying and writing. He loved it. All said it was a wonderful summer? They are all preparing for another school year. Grandson a junior in college. Granddaughter a sophomore in
High school. Son and daughter in law, teaching. Me, glad they are home safe.

I will also continue studying, putting words together, playing the harmonica, and reading. Simple things that add small pleasures. Life is good.

Got new tags for my car today. Also renewed my driver's license for
another four years. All I need now is to pick up a couple of items I
forgot to get at my grocer's yesterday.

What are carbs? What do they consist of? Are they necessary for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Why do some people lose weight by cutting carbs? What do they cut? I crave sweets. I know sweets are bad for me. Are sweets carbs? I was going to buy some cookies to satisfy my great desire for something sweet but decided not to buy them. I know I will regret this decision tonight and wish I had two cookies left over to give away after I had eaten the rest of the package. That is a nightmare I repeatedly experience. This morning for breakfast I had two, maybe two and a half scrambled eggs, a piece of oat nut toast, two slices of bacon cooked two minutes in the microwave and coffee. What should I have left off? Sometimes life is complicated. I've got many low cal dinners in the freezer to help me lose weight. The many not in the freezer I have eaten over time. I thought I would lose weight. Look at me. Don't laugh, its not funny.
I have inched up one or two tenths at a time until now, I stand at the door. Life has no purpose. Only carbs, but what are they?

Looking at the tv. It is showing a distant galaxy. We have a small satellite flying that way. What will it find? Maybe frozen water, like Greenland. Perhaps it will have an unsettled surface, mountains rising higher than our oceans are deep. And maybe between those steep peaks it will observe valleys filled with carbs and our scientist will wonder, are those carbs the same as in our food chain or something different. Could this place support life. They will not know but will keep looking, looking for a rock that will support what we perceive to be some kind of living creature

That swims or walks on rickety legs, tiny organisms that excite men with Science degrees back on earth, this earth. Why did we name this place earth? What do we mean when we say something has an earthy smell? If our distant satellite flew by a great bluff so that creatures there, if they existed, could not look over this Great bluff, and see life creatures here as they were remembered

In some previous life, if they could not see and remember, would our satellite know what great discovery it had missed? What is the average life span? Why does life seem shorter the closer we get to the end. Does it have meaning? Is it supposed to? Why does mankind whose great intelligence sends satellites on distant explorations know so little about his own existence and the why's and wherefores of life he hopes to discover? Pray tell.

Bill-- to answer your question about breakfast, you should have left off the toast for low carb. :D An easy way to think of cutting carbs is to avoid all the "white" stuff... generally sugar, flour, rice, potatoes, corn, other starches. So you are correct that you need to avoid sweets; try to substitute a small amount of fruit. (Fruit is also higher carb due to the natural sugar, but those are considered "good" carbs.) Stick to mainly proteins, fats, and vegetables.

I agree with all of this. An easy way to tell, most of the time is to ask yourself if it is a whole , natural food grown in nature, or is is something that has been through a processing plant of some kind. I just ask myself “did God make this, or did man process it”.
The “white stuff” that Beth mentioned is that color because it has been highly processed until there are not nutrients left in the food, and the reason it is white is because it has been totally bleached of even the natural color.
Obviously, if you eat a food like this, and your body gets no nutrition and fuel from the food, then your body is going to keep telling you that it needs nutrients and fuel, so you will always be hungry and craving even more food.
Carbs that are in a natural state, like vegetables, legumes, and even fresh fruit, take longer for the body to digest, and supply nutrients when you eat them, so you don’t feel as much hunger when you eat whole, natural foods.
This list does not contain much for healthy fats and dairy, but it will give you some examples of healthy foods that you can eat and enjoy.

I think I like this. Where can I find flax bread and what is whole rye bread?

    @Bobby Cole
Wasn't sure where this should go or if it should be written up at all. I don't remember dreams very often.
And maybe only one other time ever have I dreamed something, awoke, then went back to sleep and
dreamed again the same thing, only continued continuing the story along as it were. Not sure where I was,
maybe Georgia or, Alabama, up in the hills, there stood a great peak, climbable except near the
top it became concave so it could not be climbed on the nearest side because when you reached a certain
height, the hill curved out so if you kept climbing, gravity would make you fall, because you could no longer
cling to the peak, you would fall. A member here on this forum ws going to show me how to climb out over
the concave bent in the peak so you could look down and view the ground sixteen hundred feet down below.
It sort of reminded me of the towers at Benning where you dropped to get the feel of falling at some seventeen
feet per second or something like that. It was a dangerous climb even for an expert. Bobby was going to show
me how. When we got into position to view the ground and see really how high sixteen hundred feet actually was,
suddenly Bobby said you can reach around here and grab a handful of mother earth and climb down. I was terrified
when he suddenly reached around, sliding his body weight trying to grab hold of something, anything. There was
nothing and Bobby fell sixteen hundred feet to the floor below, straight down. He bounced once, lay there a moment,
then got up and walked off toward where people had been watching, apparently okay, I was horrified to be left alone
on the peek, knowing that coming back down the way we had come up was a dangerous and hazardous feat.
Bobby went off with someone to be checked out by medical personnel. I was struggling to get back down, wondering
if Bobby deliberately tried to do what he knew was not possible of if his judgment went bad on him or what exactly
happened. So suddenly did he reach around and find himself not hanging but falling. And when I did finally arrive,
Yvonne was PO'd at me to no end, saying, 'Go on home, you've caused enough trouble for one day.' So I don't know
what to say to Bobby. What happened? or "You've got more nerve than I have." Long after I was awake I could still see
him falling and then and then bounce once and lie still for seconds, then hop up, walk away, never looking back or up.
I want to yell, 'be careful, Bob, we're too damn old for this." That seemed to be my dream most all night long. Me knowing I would not bounce and get up. I would try to fall knees slightly bent, prepared to fall and roll over and drive my leg up into my body or just splatter, never to arise. Was a horrible dream.

I have always wished to be the man in someone’s dreams (preferably my wife’s) but not to the extent of causing such consternation for one whom I deem to be a good internet friend.
Maybe next time we will both have parachutes.

And, do not worry yourself a bit over Yvonne’s outburst. She was angrier at me than you......:)

I have this bump which appeared on my chin, on its own, without help. It has grown larger
and has now presented difficulties in shaving. It is sore. When it first appeared, it did not
protrude so much and was sore to the touch. Now that it is more obvious I am conscience
it is there and a bit sore without touching. It appears red or pink this morning but that may
have been because I shaved too close the other morning. I'm doctoring it with medicated
shampoo (is that one o or two)?
