The weather has suddenly turned warm today and for the next few days with daytime temperatures up to 8c and sunny..
OK.................... Don't ask what happened !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -------------......... I still don't believe it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife was taking a shower and she reached for the bottle of shampoo for her hair.. Now she buys the largest darn bottle of the stuff ever seen.. As she grabs the bottle, it slips out of her soapy hands and it falls right on the top of her right foot, the area just above the toes called the metatarsals.. She must of broken some of those small bones.. Went for an X-Ray at the hospital and the end result is she is now in a cast boot for several weeks... They are sending her for a cat scan which we have an appointment on Friday, however it is in Sault Ste. Marie which is a 3 hour drive from our house.. Wonderful........... Just wonderful !!! Meanwhile, she is in pain (of course) and has now helped herself to some of my pain killers which seem to work OK.. After the cat scan, she has another appointment with the orthopedic specialist and we were wondering if my surgery will be postponed till she is capable of looking after me when I come home.. We will know what is happening after the visit to the specialist after the cat scan.. LIKE I SAID ------------------ DON'T ASK !!!!!!!
Oh dear Steve ,looks like it will be like meals on wheels for you both if your surgery go's ahead ,Give my best wishes to Annemarie for a swift recovery ..I fractured my toe next to my big one three years ago while away on holidays up,the Gold Coast ..The couch in the unit had 1" steel legs that stuck out as far as the seat part and I accidentally kicked the leg ,of the seat ...with no shoes on ..OUCH ...it was very sore and painful for weeks ...in fact my leg up,to my knee was swollen.
Thanks Kate.. I still have my legs that I can walk and I still will have my left arm that I can use... Meals on wheels isn't available in our village.. I promise you that somehow we will survive... At this point, I keep saying that ......... "It takes the 2 of us to make one person"........
I did similar damage to my foot with a large bottle of Shampoo in exactly the same way as Anne-Marie... Huge bottle couldn't grip it properly and it slipped right out of my hand and although didn't break anything, it was so painful it felt like it was broken and badly bruised the top of my foot for weeks.. I only dispense into small bottles now I hope Anne-Marie gets well soon.. such a shame you have to travel so far to the hospital.... Whoever is the driver is going to be in a lot of pain , either you with your shoulder , or A-M with her Foot.. .. It never rains but it pours does it?..hope you both get well soon
Well im thankful when we retired that we moved to a town that has a small hospital only 3 miles away but if its really serious they will send people via ambulance to Jackson which is about 25 miles from town, but thank goodness ,,Steve.. your Princess is able to hobble on her foot enough to get around, I know the pain!! I was bare footed one day and I jumped into the car and closed the door just catching my little toe in the door, You talk about Pain! im sure I squeeled as loud as your wife steve and most likely Kate and Holly too, I was in my early 20s and never went to a dr , I just put ice on it and suffered .. I bearly have a toenail on my little toe to this day after that.. I did tell my hubby just recently that I want a safety bar in the shower.. I'm getting older and I don't want to slip and fall and have to holler " Help, ive fallen and I can't get up" I would love to get one of those showers that you can sit down if you have to but the expense is ridiculous for people who are retired.. I hope this does not put a hold on your shoulder surgery , Steve .. take care,,
@Louise Williams I went to Walmart and bought one of those suction cup grab bars for my shower. It works really well. Nighty nite, all.
I installed a grab bar just outside the bathtub and we both use it.. Extremely handy and much safer getting out of the tub.. Very simple to install.. I did it without any problems and it is very secure.. I also bought from a speciality shop a special bath mat that won't slip in the tub.. We also have a chair lift to go upstairs so we don't have to climb stairs.. Now that Annmarie has a problem with her foot, it is very important to have.. I don't use it much but she uses it all the time..
Just to let you know that tonight the temperature will be -28c.. That's -18f for those that want to know Fahrenheit Still into winter even though it is spring...
The old saying . March goes out like a Lion and Spring comes in like a Lamb. Hope next month will get warmer for you, Steve. and a great invention..that chair lift, it came in handy for your princess.!
Absolutely.. We had the chair lift installed some years ago when I had my hip replacement in 2009, and we have been using it ever since.. wonderful aid that thing is.. As we get older, we must have different gadgets in the house to make our life more manageable in order for us to stay in the house and not be compelled to sell and move.. Our Government has grants to help seniors do just that.. We asked our local member if we were eligible and the next thing we knew, the chairlift was installed by them....
We are off again to Sault Ste. Marie on Friday as we both have a catscan.. Me for my shoulder as part of my pre-op and Annmarie for her foot.. Back home on Saturday late in the day.. On Monday I will call up the doctor's office and they will give us another appointment to go back to Sault Ste. Marie to see the doctor for the results of the catscan.. That should be within the following few days.. I know it is a lot of travelling back and forth to Sault Ste. Marie, but I can't help it.. It is a good 3 hour drive from our house.. We stay over every time because I can't drive over 6 hours in one day especially if we get an early start in the morning.. Also the fact that during the winter, it is much more difficult to travel back and forth with the unknown road conditions.. Things can change in minutes.. Snow squalls are very common up there.. Besides we get a Northern Ontario Travel Grant from our Government which pays us to travel out of town to see a specialist because we live in a small village with no specialist.. We get $250.00 each trip which pays the hotel, supper, gas, and lunch the next day for the both of us.. All they require is a receipt that we slept over regardless of the price for us to get the $250.00.. Good thing I drive a small car that doesn't take much gas..
