To be honest, I don't know that doctors know everything there is to know about diabetes. They seem to just go along with the usual teachings.

I think the problem is that there are "standard protocols," and your doctor is at legal risk if he/she recommends something outside of the mainstream and bad things happen to you.

They actually know very little. And most are in drug companies' pockets anyway; they'll push whatever new drug come out for big perks. Somebody has to pay for all that singing & dancing.

At my diagnosis 13 years ago, my first doctor wanted to hospitalize me for "Severe Dehydration." I saw another doctor who said I wasn't the least bit dehydrated. I asked him why the other doctor wanted me to be hospitalized. He said, "Well, those IV's & hospital stay means a big referral fee." At the time, I thought he was kidding.
Second doctor said to take 10 Units of insuilin before each meal. I found myself on the floor. I learned that the only one fit to manage this is ME. Otherwise, I'll have a very short life.

Those commercials really bug me. Why do they pick obese people to advertise diabetes drugs? It is possible that they would not be Type 2 if they weren't so fat, so they take drugs rather than self control. not all type 2 folks are fat, but it is a big--probably the biggest--risk factor. Type 1 diabetics have an autoimmune disease and are a different disease. These drugs don't treat type 1 people and are specifically contraindicated.

I think they have obese people in ads for diabetes drugs to condition people into thinking obesity is normal.

The blueberry in the Jardiance commercial is somewhat of a body normality activist...a calorie influencer...a digestion diva. Her name is Deanna Colón. She loves stirring the pot (just hope you're not in it.)

I have no problem with people who are a bit chubby. I am there as well, but I just don't want to watch commercials with them in a starring role.

Agree. Besides the fact that I believe commercials should be illegal for prescription drugs.

Me too, @Beth Gallagher. That is another of the Clinton legacies I think. They were legalized by his FDA. I assume it was after significant campaign donations, but I do not know that. I believe that anything you cannot legally walk into a store and purchase or purchase on line should not be legal to advertise. We can walk into a store and purchase firearms in most locations. Where are the TV commercials for guns and ammo? I want to see that fat chick dancing around and telling everyone how great her AR15 is.

Things I don't want to see:
    1) Fat chick dancing for any product
    2) Woman sitting on toilet
    3) "Lume" idiot discussing body odors like showers are not an option
    4) "Manscaping"

Of course. And I'm taking statins when I'm not doing all I can through diet, so I've little room to judge. And there's nothing wrong with the non-anorexic set.

    Yup.

I'm surprised more people don't seem to find it ridiculous. A doctor spends years in school but you should ask him to prescribe certain drugs?

Especially since many of the commercials don't even hint at what the medicine is for. Just "ask your doctor about blah, blah.":rolleyes: The most annoying commercials to me are the metastatic breast cancer "patients" who are so freakin' happy to be dying.
