John I sure am glad you don't listen to intoxicated people. The little, short-term buzz wasn't worth it. I need to do like George Thorogood, and " Drunk Alone".

@John Brunner as you know, I would recommend you at least contact Urology at J-H if you are unhappy with how things are going with your treatment. If you can get in contact with a professional there, give them the rundown on you initial problem(s), how things have been treated, and ask for a "second opinion". If you can get your lab and imaging results, pass them along to them as a medical history, and see what they say. The worst that can happen would be they will say there is nothing further they can do, but the best may be that have alternatives for you to try. I don't know what kind of catheter you have in, but if they are allowing you to flush it, you should be okay removing whatever you can through the cath as long as you don't pull too hard (i.e. suction). For urethral catheters, there is a "flushable" catheter that allows for flushing through a third lumen--other than the drain and the bulb. I don't know if they make such a thing for the SPCs, but that might be an option if such things exist. FYI, they are usually used to keep a post surgical catheter clear of blood so it doesn't clot off, but it might serve you as well.

Here is a sheet from Australian Medicine that give you some guidance, or at least some questions to ask.

I need to put an anthology together and contact JH just to see what they say. Regarding that pdf...I snagged it somewhere along the line. It has great advice. I've got my first appointment with my doctor (on Wednesday) since the SPC was installed on Sept 1. Not entirely his fault because the blockage emergencies kept goofing up the scheduled appointments. I have a kidney guy at UVA gathering up my medical data for me to come in and talk about sediment. I'm not sure about taking the Nitrofurantoin...while rare, it is on the top of the list of drug-caused pulmonary issues. Maybe I can get in to see a pulmonologist and see what their opinion is. I'm gonna float it by my urologist but think I need to get the kidney guy to do an analysis before I leap to an antibiotic solution. And I still have the perpetual risk of the partially inflated catheter withdrawals (which I'll discuss again with my doctor.) Maybe it's time to seek another practice, but there's no way to assess performance based on a single visit.

And the ranking I pulled up had JH #2 Sloan #1 and Mayo #3 so I guess it matters who ranks and what the ranking basis is.

Don it can be confusing, so I just keep googling and looking. From what I found J.H. is the best so far.

Even #7 or #10 in the entire nation is pretty good, huh? I spent over 45 years in the DC area. Johns Hopkins is well-respected, for very good reasons.

Listen to first 3 minutes see if it intertest you. This first segment is about bladder cancer but
that's not the reason I put it up, its the idea of patient to patient that may be helpful. Staying highly inveigled in treatment is always a good thing. It is about the doctor at John Hopkins liking the new program " Patient To Patient" Patient's talking to each other on the phone about their procedure's. I didn't watch it all yet.

That Cleveland Clinic ranks very high in many polls. Surprised me.
I have only had hip surgery and before that I researched and talked to as many people as possible who had it done to find the best surgeon for me.
I wish there were more reviews for Doctors.
My 'primary care' comes from the best chiro on the planet. She has her ear to the ground to help people find the best care too. If you can talk to patients, like the video and/or friends and acquaintences it can only help with decisions and info.
I wonder if you could youtube urologists in Virginia?
