Does it matter what anyone else states, whether 'expert' or not If it makes sense to you, wear a mask - makes me feel more comfortable to do so, so I do
What I watched was only part of their latest news brief. The whole thing is on YouTube if you want to watch it, but here is the part that I was listening to.
The problem is that this has been designed to turn neighbor against neighbor. Somehow my not wearing a mask makes me your potential assassin. People act as though there's a 50% infection rate, not a 0.5% infection rate. I've always understood how individual freedoms die in crowded cities. It's all about perceived individual safety. This virus and all its rhetoric has pushed "exchanging freedom for security" nationwide. All it's taken is the right level of unthinking fear.
Thanks again for the video, Yvonne, which I watched with great interest. What this lady as a representative of the WHO is saying is that it is very rare that an asymptomatic person actually transmits the virus and the disease. She does not say that this group is NOT contagious at all as you say. Nor does she say that people shouldn't wear a mask or practice social distancing, though, as you are saying. That, too, seems to be your personal conclusion. I'd have been surprised if the WHO had actually recommended that explicitly. Thus, if people don't wear a mask, it is their personal decision but not something the WHO would recommend. That's why I don't see any complete reversal of what the WHO had said in the past either. This organisation keeps learning every day, too, based on the new data coming in every day. This is normal when you are confronted with something completely new and are doing research at the cutting edge. What should also be considered and what puts this WHO statement in perspective is that she admitted that her assertions were based on insufficient data and on some countries only which implies that it is not wrong to be careful. Needless to say that everything people decide to do in order to protect themselves depends on the specific situation of where they live. If there were more than 50,000 new cases a day, I'd be concerned. Apart from that I'm not quite clear about the status the WHO now has in the US and here on SOC. Is it now an organisation that is to be dismissed as biased and incompetent or do their findings carry some weight? Does anyone know?
At the beginning, 700 plus people were dying every day over here - this figure has gone down, due to being sensible No problem to continue with the procedure we have, until the numbers are better than they are now It has not 'been 'designed' to turn neighbour against neighbour' - that is a personal assumption - you are not a problem to me because you choose not to wear one, I choose to avoid your space
Yes, and if someone gets it because their mask doesn't provide the kind of protection they think it does, or because they were using it carelessly, or even because you can't hide from a virus forever, they will be convinced that whoever they came across that wasn't wearing a mask gave it to them, and it won't matter that this person has always been negative.
I haven't witnessed evidence of people upset if someone does not wear a mask but I guess it goes on There are reasons other than defiance why some don't wear a mask, for me, its their decision
How is that Al? Why are you so contrary on this subject? Just doesn't make sense to me, if reading the news,(yes I know it is all fake) doesn't make you think just a bit, then I don't know. What would it take to prove to you that masks are effective in slowing the spread? Whose word would you believe? Or is this just an instance of obstinate independence? The equivalent of a temper tantrum.
