Never been to either place. I've got a granddaughter in law's sister who went down earlier this year to work. Has a pretty good job in a Children's research hospital in Melbourne. Also have a cyber friend living in Melbourne whom I have known since February 2007.

Maybe because you aren't skillful on this matter? Maybe your boomerang is faulty? :)

A response from an individual in another forum:

    "Different tectonic shifts. Re Gondwana.
NZ was never attached to the Australian continent, which shifted Southwards from the Indio/Asia landmass, together with its unique flora fauna potential.
NZ formed from a northward shift from Antarctica [Largely Baren] Its flora fauna evolving from Pacific influences."

Actually, it's my answer but I'm too humble to take credit for it .

Believe that one and I'll tell you another one. :)

But you're right, his explanation is plausible. He nailed it, I do believe.

Well, a person who knows about the continent of Gondwana can't be stu...d.
Anyway, the marine currents, the winds and tornados, the typhons and human devastation during centuries have an enormous impact on a region's flora / fauna.

I’ve never been outside AUSTRALIA , I lived in NSW till I was 25 in a mining town of about 40.000 residents
I moved to South Aust 500 km away and still here :)
I’d never traveled much at all until hubby and I sold our home in the city of Adelaide ( suburbs ) and went traveling around Aust for 2 years in our caravan .

We’ve just sold our caravan so that’s just a good memory now ,we’d love to travel more however we all know that’s not possible now ,despite being fairly Covid free in Aust it’s still effecting our freedom to a certain extent
