It's 7:30, and I see the morning tip-toeing into the new day. I will have my Cafe La'Creme and read the funnies...still the best part of the newspaper! Morning does seem to get around, doesn't it Lara? Enjoyed the poem, along side the quiet. This may prove not to be a "Jump'n" day.
A few Expressos and we''ll all be "In The Mood" …let's put a quarter in the Jukebox and see what happens!
@Joe Riley, I sure wish you could bring me a cup of strong coffee. We got into the airport, and we bought a couple cups of coffee for $10.00, they let us walk 20', then told us we had to pour it all out. It's not allowed. They knew this when they sold us the coffee. Oh well, what can you do? Check out the pictures on my Whirlwind Tour thread. We went all over the mountains. I'll check back later.
A tip for the coffee and cheese/fruit plate I had this morning. Dave, do you have any cupcakes? Hi Ina! Bring one for Ina too please…my treat. Oh, and about the "This Joint is Jumpin' "…have you ever seen Fats Waller from 1935 do that one?…it's very different…both are great. Not to be confused with Cab Calloway's "Jumpin' Jive"
Yeah, Lara, the Fats Waller version is the one that I remember most, it's just that I found the newer, fresher version, and really liked it! Can't recall hearing Jumpin' Jive before! Cupcakes, coming up! An American swamp pop band from south Louisiana. This was their 2nd charted hit that peaked at #94 on the Hot 100 in the summer of 1963.
I checked out your pictures, Ina, they are super! Seems like airport coffee is higher than the planes! Keep your up-dates coming...and don't forget your cupcake!
@ Lara Moss, thank you for the treat. I could sure use a cupcake right about now, we left Colorado Spring this morning at 8:30 am,, and we just check into our room, at 8:45 pm. We are so tired, we could use at least a couple pots of your nice strong coffee. I hope everyone is enjoying our Hi Goodbye cafe. It is a great place for us seniors to meet up and see what is happening to everyone. I'll have more to tell after a good night's rest. ;
An exciting day, around here for sure! In the wee hours, before we opened, a black Fiat stopped out front, and a Senior, dressed all in white,popped in for a cup of mate de coca (coca leaf infusion)! He was in and out! Said he was going to see D.C.! Flo packed up a sack of "Holy Grounds" coffee, for him to take with him!
Just after the Pope finished his tea and left, I overheard a conversation at the table in the corner where 4 Catholic men were having coffee. Right next to them was a Catholic woman having her coffee. The first Catholic man tells his friends, MY son is a priest. When he walks into a room, everyone calls him "Father". The second Catholic man chirps, MY son is a Bishop. When he walks into a room people call him "Your Grace". The third Catholic gent says, 'MY son is a Cardinal. When he enters a room everyone calls him "Your Eminence". The fourth Catholic man chirps, 'MY son is the Pope. When he walks into a room people say "Your Holiness". The lone Catholic woman, sipping her coffee in silence, turns to the 4 men and replies, 'I have a daughter. She is drop dead Gorgeous! When she walks into a room, people say "Oh My God".
You are correct, Lara, when you implied that we opened super early, this morning! There was a car or two with the Pope, and we had an "early mass".....of people! He drank tea, not coffee. "The 77-year-old pontiff admitted to being treated for "nerve" problems, and confided he drank mate every day. "Must treat them well, these nerves, give them mate every day," he said. Yerba mate is a beverage popular in South America that's made by steeping the leaves and stems of the Ilex paraguariensis tree. In Spanish-speaking countries, it's called mate. Traditionally, the beverage is served in a dried gourd and then sipped through a silver straw with a filter on one end to strain out leaves"
Oh oops, you're right that the Pope drank tea. I tried Yerba Mate teabags once after reading of the health benefits. It had a different taste for sure. Maybe I should have used a silver straw and brewed it from leaves. Interesting that it is good for nerves. I've read it is also good for bones (in post menopausal women) and colon cancer.
