1-Changes in sunspot activity 2-As you said, changes in the tilt of the Earth on its axis But we moved from Indiana to Virginia in 1963, and I can count on one hand the number of snows we had where I could use my sled, most of those being morning-only sledding because it melted by lunchtime. In 2009 we had 3'-4' across the state. A few years later we had (1) storm of less than 6". In 2021 we had another storm of less than 6". All else has been a 2" or less. "Significant" storms (6"or more) have been 8-9 years apart in the past 60 years.
Yep, that is one of two roof rakes we have. What I have never seen is the device @John Brunner posted.
I thought it was just a roof scraper with a shield which would be more than I would want to bother with.
nope, it is a device with small wheels that is pushed into the snow and the snow slides down the "chute", kind of the opposite to a rake that his pushed or vaulted over the snow and pulled down. Watch the video to see how it works. There is another video in the same attachment that shows it working better.
I just looked it up and for my area this is the 7th warmest December on record. I remember a few 60 and even 70 degree days in December’s past. It was predicted though because of the El Niño in the Pacific. As I said before, works for me! The only problem is this up and down is causing me a lot of sinus pain. My neighbor and I were discussing the seeming shift in the seasons. We seem to be off about a month or two from the usual.
Quite nice for winter, but cold. It was near 0 F. when we got up, but it is 11:00 AM and the sun is up (winter solstice is tomorrow). Our sunrise services are always around Christmas. Sky looks clear and no additional snow overnight.
