Agreed...but he uses Trump Towers as his main living and working area and its been noted several times that this costs extra extra money vs his conducting business mainly from the WH....its the extra millions it costs that I object to.

Trump Towers belongs to him, so it shouldn't cost that much extra, and besides that what President in his right mind would want to work in the White House when there are spies and spyware planted everywhere in that place by Trump's enemies who will do anything to get rid of him as President.

I think Gloria is referring to the extra security when he's there, plus Melania lives there too.

President Trump is in a unique position. He knows there is no real security in the White House for him. And there is no privacy either. I don't think there is any law that says Trump has to stay at the White House and do everything and I don't think he would have any problem reimbursing the extra money it cost for him to stay at a place where he feels secure and at peace while he is working. He has no control over things at the White House but he does have control at Trump Towers.

didn't obamah have extra security at the place he rented in Hawaii, ?and the cost of the plane trip to get there and back too??

also Ronald Reagan always went to his ranch which had to have heavy security too. and the bushes island in maine, had security too...

Just sayin' That Trump is not the only one who has used their own homes to invited guests , and besides , at his own place at least he knows is much safer then the white house ...

Democrats complained about Bush golfing too much during his first year or so, then he all but quit golfing. Then they complained that he was spending too much time on his ranch in Texas, which I don't think he's been to since leaving office. Republicans complained about Obama's golfing and his and wife's frequent vacations, particularly when they would take separate planes. That's just par for the course, I think. Wherever they are, there will be expenses for the Secret Service. However, since they work shifts, I don't know why they would need to take up a lot of rooms.

He also has his own security which he pays for because he does not trust the ones given to him. He remembers Kennedy.

    @Martin Alonzo
I guess JFK's security forces did fail miserably, no doubt. Back then, the "PR" part of public appearance demanded up-close, real person exposure. That cost JFK his life. Even the Pope, who exists as God's communicatory to the masses, moves about behind bullet-proof glass.

Robert Kennedy? I do not remember much about the details. Clearly, though, the killing of Lee Harvey Oswald by a restaurant owner then dying of cancer, cannot be easily "written off" (regarding JFK's death). Something obviously "fishy" went on with that one, perhaps (by my own surmise), a large one-time payment to Ruby's wife? Sort of a happy "death-benefit"? If true, the gov't. was most definitely involved in JFK's death.

If I were Trump, I most certainly would not have gov't. provided "Secret Service" folks hovering around me! Give it some thought a moment: An extremely high-ranking government official (i.e., President), needs protection 24/7, because someone, somewhere, is constantly bent on killing him. How can he or his advisors rest easy that amongst the hundreds paid to protect him, one "fly in the ointment" does not exist? Someone perhaps in dire need of money, family health issues, perhaps.

Taken a step further, what price will "buy" protective secrecy? Can the ability to rest 100% easy against "attack from within" be bought? At what price? Are Secret Service Agents perhaps guaranteed huge bonuses if an assassination attempt is thwarted by them? What amount must be spent to guarantee against a death attempt BY ONE OF THEM?

    I just wonder......Frank

I do have a little giggle about all this
Trump has been so used to getting his own way in business, he just thought he could do the same in politics
A bit naïve there - he can't demand what he wants in 'this' situation, only dictators can do that
If his intentions are good, then America will be fine with him at the helm

Although I'm a Trump supporter...I'm not fully in agreement on him living in Trump tower. For one thing, he doesn't live there alone...other people do too, so security is tougher. It's more accessible than the whitehouse...I think people walk right by the front entrance...its 50 some stories high and filled with offices, stores. apartments, etc with Trump living in a penthouse apt there.

It's a totally different thing then obamas Hawaiian home or Bush's Crawford ranch. It's right in super busy manhattan. He lives there with a lot of other condo owners and those people I'm sure have guests coming and going, etc.

It's gotta be a nightmare for security.

It's not as simple as ok, trump will pay for his own security. He may say he doesn't need the salary as President because that's really nothing for him but he's a business man and we are talking millions when he's at Trump tower.

Also, he may have his own security even at the whitehouse but secret service trumps them I think by law.

Like I said I'm a Trump supporter and think he's doing a great job but I like fairness on both sides.

If you say he's paying his own security then show me a link and how much it's costing...including police dept when he's there.

Trump tower is the worst place a president could live.....his Florida home is a much safer bet.

I think President Trump will do what makes him feel most secure regardless of what anyone thinks or says. And if others don't like this, I don't think this will bother him much either. From the little research I did yesterday there doesn't seem to be a law that states a President must live in the White House.

But there are people it probably bothers....he doesn't live alone in Trump Tower. I would hope he does look at others safety also.

It might not be the law that he has to live there but it's the most practical place for a president to live...only Washington didn't live there.

    Here's another reason.

I don't believe they could force him to live there, but it has so many practical advantages. For one thing, his office -- the West Wing and Oval Office are branches of the WH. So, it's convenient to work. Secondly, the other part of his work is hosting state functions. These are often held in the WH. Finally, the President needs a comprehensive security detail, and for him to even go to the store is a nightmare. The White House is probably one of the safest most fortified buildings in the world. It also has a bunker under ground for protection in the event of a nuclear attack. Come to think of it, that is also where the Situation Room is. A President needs to be able to roll out of bed, and into where the action is at. That will always be in the White House.

Just because he may choose not to live there full time doesn't mean he can't work there, hold functions there, etc.

Besides having to straighten out the security leaks in the White House, get rid of the spies there, etc. he also probably does not want to stay there most of the time because his family is not there with him. I think once these things are taken care of to his satisfaction and his family joins him....we will see him spending alot more living time at the White House. And yet I don't believe he will consider it home.

Probably none of the presidents considered it home...

And I think by law it's the secret service and not his security whoever that is that is in charge of his security.

Trump is a wealthy businessman, so far a great president but he can't do as he pleases no matter how much money he has...that's a dictator and not a president.

People seem to get on the White House grounds very easily so the WH is not as safe as Trump tower seems to be.
