    @Sheldon Scott
Gee, don't get me started on those crooked lotteries! Why? Here goes: In my state (why would others be much different?) 11% of the sale of a ticket goes to the seller. 48% is consumed in running the damned lottery, "Administrative Cost", leaving about 60% for payouts. Given the "cut-off" time for sales of a particular draw, the Lottery Commission publishes the amount of dough available for winnings. That "pot" is put up for sale to the highest bidder! Bidders are usually insurance companies, bless them! Knowing exactly how many tickets have been sold, and all the other variables involved, bids to "buy" the pot are made. It may be bought for any amount on the dollar, sometimes even MORE! The State thus washes it's hands of the draw entirely, the successful buyer is gambling that there will be few, if any, big winners, and gets to keep what's left. Such buyers would not be risking their dough if it weren't lucrative to do so.

This method is FAR more crooked than the numbers games in the big cities; they pay out over 95% of the funds taken in, keeping only 5%! How do we know how much "Administration" of such an affair REALLY costs?

Another rant. 2 right off the bat. Must be a bad day. I'll explain why in "Reminiscing".

He's sure a lot more of a hard-nosed butt-kicker than his wimpy predecessor!

I look forward to Donald's second term!

Corporate Welfare is expensive....the money to mollify the Richie Richs of the country has to come from somewhere (http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-hiltzik-mcconnell-social-security-20181019-story.html), and we certainly cannot expect the politicians to ask Big Business to tighten tighten its belt, or cut back the Pentagon's budget.

Every one wants medicare but what is it. It allows you access to the third leading cause of death in the US. This is from a study done by doctors and published in medical journal. Trump brought out right to try if you could not find help in the medical system.
The LA times is very bias so what you read might be slightly distorted.

Most of you probably know that President Trump has been holding rallies almost every day, and drawing HUGE crowds, way beyond what the buildings are able to hold, and people are going a day ahead of time just to be able to get inside to actually see the rally.
Obama has also been holding rallies to help support the Democrats who are running for re-election. Here is a recent picture of the Trump rally in Houston, and the Obama rally in Las Vegas last week.

Every time the term social security comes up, we (seniors) immediately think of our Trust Fund or OASI. While it may be true that money was used for other purposes, it also earned interest, which at times was quite large. Of the current 2.8T in the trust, over 2T is interest accrued.

However, there are numerous other programs that fall into the "social security" category with our trust fund being just 1 of 21.
Here is the current law labeled Social Security. Subchapter two is our OASI (old age, survivors insurance trust fund) part of the equation, as well as the DI (disability insurance trust fund). Subchapter 18 is where the medicare trusts come into play. The trusts are social insurance programs, while the remainder is considered social welfare. But even that can create some havoc amongst some seniors on this forum.

I voted yesterday, just in case I die before November 6, I wanted to be sure to get my vote in. I wish President Trump had been on the ticket so I could vote for him again.

I watched President Trump's speech on YouTube. The crowd was awesome. Naturally, the Washington Post downplayed the size of the crowd. Yes, I do read that bull crap once in a while just to see what kind of lies they are spinning now.

Sure Donald has a loud-mouthed Super-Ego, but all of the World's strong leaders were like that!

Churchill, Stalin, Roosevelt/Truman, Hitler, Hirohito,...they all called a Spade a Spade and slammed their fist down on the Flubdubs and Mollycoddles.

We don't want another mealy-mouthed Jimmy Carter or Barack Obama!

Agreed, but the days of balanced and unbiased reporting are pretty much dead, and even given the bent of the LA Times, Fox News, etc., what does it mean really? The LA Times will handpick news that supports its liberal bent, just as Fox News will do the opposite, and both will give their 'interpretation' of it according to which audience they are playing to. Either don't much matter when the quotes are coming from the proverbial 'horses mouth', and are easy enough to fact-check on the internet:

Just go through the article, click on its links, and the links within those links, til you get to the horses mouth (and hear what he has to say for himself). The days of being a lazy consumer of news is gone. The days of getting a 'cheat sheet' of events by an impartial news source is long gone, if it ever existed. If you want to sidestep the flow of disinformation & propaganda, you have to be willing to work for it. Ignore the 'interpretation', ferret out the original source, and make your own conclusions....that's the only way I know of to avoid being lead astray by 'slanted' news.

There is another way. I use it exclusively. I ignore the "news".........

Be it "social insurance programs" or "social welfare" programs, I suspect many here are either entirely dependent on one or more...or at least marginally so (to the point that having it yanked away would put a strain on their wallet). Probably the same with Medicaid.

I tend to ignore it too. No TV, no radio, don't buy newspapers, etc., but it's pretty much impossible to prevent at least some slipping through. I'm on reddit, voat, notabug, poal, stagevu, saidit, 8ch, plus there is news here too. One can either swallow it 'hook, line & sinker', ignore it entirely, or filter out the 'noise' via fact-checking.
