@Shirley Martin It might, at that. Or, we're being led to believe that......Fracking costs the environment, according to those opposing it.......but, I dunno. Frank
The transportation costs up the Cajon Pass to the High Desert might have something to do with our Petrol prices up here... Hal
@Hal Pollner Most petroleum products are now transported by pipeline for long-distance travel, over mountains and dales, etc. I was amazed when I learned of how widespread the network of pipelines really was, and that they transport a great variety of different products through them. Gasoline, Diesel, heating oil, chemical solvents of high usage (acetone, acetaldehyde, etc), coal slurry. They separate the differing products in the pipe to prevent mixing, usually, by inserting rubber "pigs" between products differing in characteristics by very much. Thus, a shipment of gasoline might be "pigged" by a shipment of, say, methyl alcohol, whereas chemically similar products are not even pigged, but allowed to mix a little bit in between. I was astounded when I learned about this. Frank
Oh I'm in So. Cal near the ocean and hear gasoline is a lot less in Hawaii than here..getting across the ocean and it's less. Hey folks, it is progress and our capitalistic society....right? Due to joint issues and knee problems I got rid of my auto and have no more expense in that area of my life. A big expense gone. Tomorrow my friend is picking me up for a doc appt and some marketing and I pay the little it costs for all this and buy us dinner. I'm adjusted to my life and don't sweat the money now....for now anyway.
You don't live in CA, Al.... Chevron is the highest price gas anyway in CA and it's highest ever in my life of driving. CA has out of control taxes added to gas, thanks to the deep blue controllers of this once golden state.
Premium is over $4/gallon here. My small 13 gallon tank costs over $50 to fill up. Regular is close to $3.70
We have the lowest state gas taxes in the country, and regular is about $3.80. In the bush it is around $10.00.
One gallon = 3.785 liters = $7.35AUD/gallon = $5.50USD/gallon. I just took a look. Prices in Los Angeles (I assume the highest taxed area) range from $4.50 to $5.57 a gallon. I live in a rural region where nothing is close, and have been giving a friend 100 mile round-trip rides to a specialist every so often, but at least I'm not commuting to work every day.
I actually checked the price of regular today and it had risen to 4.999 for that and diesel--same price. Talked with a distributor and he said the price will rise another $.50 over the weekend.
Think that the Auusies use the imperial gallon which is 4.54 liters to the gallon. in the UK a liter costs £1.50 which as a gallon is $9.33
Thanks, Tom. So is my math wrong in converting to a US gallon? (not that it really matters, once you cross a certain threshold of insanity, huh?)
