It was pretty good, Von. They had those circles on the floor where people are "supposed" to stand, but there were so many poll workers that it appeared that they were just milling around. There were probably 4 times as many poll workers as actual voters at the the time I was there, and they definitely were not standing in the circles.
My day has been OK so far. It just seems so hot for this early in the season. I was out skimming glass clippings out of the pool earlier and our next-door neighbor called out to me over the wood fence. At first I was alarmed by his tone so I asked him if he was OK. He said yes, but he wanted to warn me that he had just chased a water moccasin across his yard and it slipped under the fence to our side. I didn't see the snake anywhere but I came back in the house anyhow.
I just got Covid. Not a bad case, at least not yet, but I can't go to my foster sister's funeral mass. I was supposed to leave this a.m., 9-hour drive. I'm very sad about missing it, as she was also one of my oldest and best friends. I was even crying to the guy at the hotel when I called to cancel my reservation. Poor guy, he said he'd say a prayer. How sweet. I've had all my shots and boosters, and I'm careful,, but it still found me.
Aw, sorry to hear it, Mary. I hope you have an easy time of it and feel better soon. My sympathies on the loss of your sister. I had a similar thing happen when my brother was very ill. I made hotel reservations to go and see him one last time, and the night before we were to leave, he died. I called the hotel and was crying my heart out. I think that it hit me hard when I had to "say the words" to someone.
@Mary Robi - oh my, sorry to hear that. We had the booster in Nov.2021, I think we are on borrowed time now. We just had ourselves one dousey of a thunder storm, with lots of rain, noise and hail. Lazy day, with more tv
You were tested and it came back "positive"? I really don't get it. Wife and I have had both vaccines and both boosters and, so far, all we've been getting is some diarrhea after going into a grocery store. However, we don't get around very many people. We stopped wearing our masks, but are going to go back to it. Whether the mask helps us or not, we don't care. We just trust wearing one more than not wearing one. Guess it can just depend on how strong of an immune system a person has to whether all four vaccines will really help or not. But, we also take numerous vitamins and supplements in the AM.
That stinks, Mary. I'm so sorry about your foster sister's passing. There have been a few recent deaths of friends and acquaintances where there were either truncated services offered (limited-to-no memorial service and graveside distancing), and even a couple of cremations with no services or memorials at all out of an abundance of caution. We are left hanging.
It has been a long day, and I am exhausted…..seriously exhausted….but it has been a productive day. Worked in the back garden this morning, and then I watched a video when I was having my morning coffee, and it was about drilling holes in an old hose and making it into a drip line. Bobby bought me a nice little drill set last year, so I used that and spent the next hour or so drilling holes into a tough old garden hose that we do not use any more. . Then we went to the fitness center, I swam and exercised for an hour, and then we picked up groceries on the way home. After lunch (avocado sandwich for me), I gave Marco Poodle a shorter, summertime clip. He likes the shorter hair, just not having it done to him. Next, I finished up drilling holes in the rest of the hose, strung it out, and started working on getting out the kinks in the hose. It is working but there are sill places where the hose needs to open up better. Now, I am having some iced tea, and going to kick back for a while and maybe watch another youtube video and learn something new. My hip has been grumbling at me for the last couple of days, so I am slower at everything than normal; but all in all, it has been a good day and I got a lot done; so I am happy lady (Happyflowerlady).
Sounds like a very full day, Yvonne. That's not a bad idea drilling holes in a hose like that. When I started a garden I bought the specialty hose that weeps, but when you have hard water, they plug up real fast.
Today, i had a really great day ! My daughter , Robin, is here from the Netherlands this week, and I got to spend the day with her today, and we had a good time together. She had an early appointment with her MS doctor, so we went there first, then had a nice late breakfast/brunch at Cracker Barrel, and then came back to her house, which is where my oldest son and his wife are now living while Robin is working out of the country. We visited there this afternoon, so I got to see all of them , and it was nice to spend the day together. They knew we always have police and emergency vehicles in our part of town at all hours of the day and night; so they had set up a nice little portable police scanner for me to hear what is going on when things happen. It is interesting because you can just put in your zip code, and it automatically picks up all of the police and emergency channels in about a 50 mile radius of your zip code; so you do not have to find and program in the local frequencies. I downloaded the pdf for the manual, and am going to read it and see how to work all the scanner buttons and controls. One of my earliest childhood memories is of my dad having an old radio with a big green “eye” to tune it in to a station, and it picked up regular radio and all kinds of shortwave stations. I loved sitting beside him and we would listen to Chinese , or whatever strange languages it picked up for wherever he would tune it into. So all my life I have loved things like shortwave and CB radios and scanners, and my kids seemed to have picked it up and enjoy it, too.
My older brother had one of these. I acquired two of them in my adult life. They were called Cat's Eye Tuning, I believe. I used to listen to BBC broadcasts on it. But the most important part of your comment was getting to see Robin. I'm glad you had some time together.
My day is only just beginning at 7am, so out the door to my job, which I enjoy and it is a full day today
