I have a world app that I plug my friends into so I can keep up with what time they may be functioning or sleeping, and I want to stick you in there too.
At this stage in my life the only job that appeals to me is Official Delagator.....I have spent my life doing what everyone else wants....now I would have them what I like...ok the pay would be lousy...... But oh what rewards I could reap!
@TxOutlaw Mitchell , now that's thinking I can understand. The only problem with that idea is, would you be willing to let go of control long enough to let them do whatever you delegate? I'm not to sure I could. But I have to admit, at this stage in my life, things can't any easier, if they do then I'll be doing everything in slow motion.
As you all know I'm still fully employed , but I'm hoping to retire in the very near future, not because I want to give up work, but this job is making me very unhappy, and at 61 working up to 11 hours a day most days is exacerbating several medical problems ...so that my days off are simply spent mostly trying to recover from the pain.. ( I'm on my feet all day at work, and no lunch break most days )... I renegotiated a reduced hours contract last month, and for the last 4 weeks I have been working less days (approx 35 hours instead of 55...but I find , that I've really begun to resent the job...and the people I work with for various reasons, and yet as a Manager with huge responsibilities I have to keep a happy demeanour at work which I don't feel...so after long deliberations over many months as my friends will attest , I've decided to take retirement. So...my question is this...and I may have asked this of you before in the last few years at some point...but as you're all retired afaik... do you miss work, and if so and a full time job was offered to you today , would you consider returning to work at this time in your life and doing a 55 hour week?
@Holly Saunders - I honestly think you have made a wise decision, if you went on much longer with those hours and stress, you're health would deteriorate I do miss working, and like you, I'm one that would go all out even in the home. Now, I can't do that I hope you've finished in time Holly and your health will improve
@Holly Saunders, I am not officially retired but temporarily unemployed being laid off three years ago. I've had those years to really ask myself if I was ready to go back to the regimen and the answer is a big fat 'no'. Although I loved the work that I did during the holidays, lunch breaks and vacations I was always thinking about what I could be doing at home.
Thanks Patsy...it's my health concerns that is really driving my decision. I'm a little concerned..well, a lot tbh, that I will miss the regular income, and also that cabin fever will set in, although I will ultimately look for a little bit of volunteering to do when the time is right to keep myself in contact with the outside world as well as being useful in some capacity..after all there's only so much lunching and shopping one can do before it gets boring ..but I have to choose between my health and money at this point, because the job is punishing my body at an alarming rate...
@Von Jones so what are the chances of you finding another job in your area at the age you are now? Is the likelihood that you will remain unemployed until you retire do you think?
Volunteering is the perfect solution Don't be negative on this Holly, I wish I'd listened to my body warning me You can only push it so far and we're not all built the same Good wishes to you x
Exactly Patsy, I think I've pushed my body too hard already and certain medical issues are potentially irreversible.. so I have little choice but to stop before I make things so very much worse. thanks for the good wishes, I'll keep you all updated xx
@Holly Saunders, I have no problem finding things to do at home and that includes running some errands during the month. Liked my last job a whole lot and very little stress. It was 80% office/computer and 20% warehouse. The heaviest weight I lifted was 40 pounds. Wife and I both quit nice paying jobs to move. I wasn't able to get another job, unlike her. She has two AA Degree's and a Bachelors. I would never take another full-time job, but someday perhaps a part-time one. However, it would have to be a desk/computer job. When my wife retires, it will slash our finances in half, but will have to find ways to adjust. My wife hates to get up in the morning (sometimes) to go to work, but once there, likes working. If her health continues good, she would take a part-time job where ever we move to. Keep your chin up lady, you'll do fine!
I probably could get a job but not in the medical field so much has changed since before and after I got laid off. I would go to a temp agency and request for a position that's easy like filing or receptionist. It is a good chance that I will be unemployed until I retire though. Johnny suffered a stroke late last year and I'm his caregiver at home.
I think that you will be glad that you have retired, when you do that, @Holly Saunders . With my health problems, which started in my late 50's, and then just got worse as my heart condition worsened, each year would have made it harder for me to work, and even part-time jobs that I tried eventually were not doable. Since you are already having a lot of pain from the long hours, you would eventually be missing work because of the pain, and miserable from it all of the time. A nice break from working, and a chance for your body to recuperate, and then you can see how you feel about being at home or whether you want to find a part-time job of some sort, maybe even something you can do from home would work ? I am always busy with projects around the house, and I do not miss having a job at all, although more money would be great, and if you are leaving a job that you do not enjoy, I don't think you will miss working either. I think that you are making a great decision, and at a time when your health is still good enough that you can actually enjoy being retired.
