It's got dark enough now in the house that I need to turn the lights on..and it's not even 4pm...thank god the shortest day is this friday!!!
Yeah, if your birthday is on the 21st, you get shorted! Our daughter's is on June 21st and has always bragged about having the longest BD!
We are always glad when we make it past that shortest day mark, too; although it seem like it takes longer for the days to get long again than it did for them to get shorter. That is because we not only get the shorter days in the fall, but then along comes the end of DST and we lose a whole hour all at once. I guess that this helps in the spring, too, but it is just not quite as noticeable then, at least that is how it seems for me. We usually close our front curtains before 4 now, even if it isn’t dark, but it is so cold, and not much sunshine coming in by that hour of day for the plants that are in the front window anyway.
I like it! I'm not a sun lover and in the summer here I never even have my blinds open or my A/C bill would be double! I'm dark.....lol. Only thing I don't like to do in the dark is drive so that's an issue in the winter..other than that I love it!
as a youngster...teens mainly, I loved the dark nights, used to love to take a bus or train in the city and window shop at night with all the lovely glowing lighted windows lighting up the streets! Now, there's hardly any proper high streets left with good department store windows.. and I don't live in the city any more, so it's very dark out here in the country at night, and no department store windows to look at at night...
I remember when living in Detroit in the winter, I went to work in the dark and I came home in the dark. I worked in a building with no windows, so unless I went out to lunch, I never saw the sun. Sometimes, I felt like a mole.
That's how my husband works most of the time. He leaves in the dark, works in the dark, and comes home in the dark...
