Because those people are the most vulnerable. Personnel working there would be second together with tax-paying (Ken) doctors and nursing staff in clinics to be followed by police, firebrigade, teachers. That's the priority list over here.
I read on the Mayo Clinic site that the ACIP (Advisory Comm. of Immun. Pract.) has discussed prioritizing vaccination for healthcare workers, workers in essential and critical industries, people at high risk for severe illness with COVID-19 due to underlying conditions and people age 65 and older. I'm guessing that my wife and I will get it sometime in March, since we're at the end of the list. I'm glad for that in a way, because by then we should know whether its safe or not. I think it will be, as long as there is nothing "nefarious" about it, such as gene editing using Crispr or some such other biological maneuver that will mess with my DNA. Or maybe I'm over reacting for no reason - or maybe I've been a member of too many forums!
Age for one thing and the fact that most live here with certain medical conditions that put them at risk and finally because we have had some residents and staff test positive.
I understand the age/medical conditions. But if they are not exposed to the virus (as in they are keeping quarantine), why would they need the vaccine ahead of the workers who could possibly infect the entire building? Anyway, it's all the same to me. I have no plans to be vaccinated.
Seems that they are "most vulnerable" due to the workers who enter/exit the facility. If they are already keeping quarantine they should be safe from contracting the virus with the exception of contact with the workers. No?
The Bad --We have 32 residents in our Memory Care diagnosed with a confirmed case of COVID-19 and 8 staff members. The Good --All residents & staff living in Assisted Living have tested negative.
Memory Care and Assisted Living are in two different areas and buildings? Anyway, sorry to hear this.
? Maybe not as bad as a year or more ago ? How many got sick with a cold or a flu or migraines or arthritis or cancer or diabetes in the last few years ?
Your idea/ post was or gave the impression that something bad was happening. I say it is nothing more, and is much less (except for the scare tactics of the politicians and doctors/ pharmacy) , than last year and previous years. People who know what to do, are at almost zero risk of any harm from any covid disease, same as previous years.
I'll jump in and say this for many older Seniors, like Lon..........."I don't think so!!" There are plenty of people that "know what to do", do it, and have still gotten the virus. Why do you think so many want this vaccine to come out. You can think what you want, but I totally understand Lon's thread. Totally.
Actually, you are not disagreeing with me in any substance. If someone thinks they know what to do, and it doesn't work, and someone else does know what to do, and it does work, then what ? Back to learning what works. When that is found out, there is no fear nor worry at all. Yes, people get cancer and die. Why worry or fear ? There's ways long known to help. Yes, people get pneumonia and die, why worry or fear ? There's ways long known to help. Same this year - perhaps be very angry at the cover ups, but instead of fear or worry, find out what works.
