I don't slather them with butter or brown sugar, just eat them occasionally as a healthier substitute for white potatoes.

The good news on the microwave, is that possibly my electrician/ engineer friend may come down this weekend, if so, this will all be resolved. I did find some low cost microwaves, if need be, I will buy one at least on a temporary basis. However, I am hoping the guy will come down this weekend. I will try to sschmooze him..because it kind of depends on what side of the bed he gets up on I think. I like using the microwave for baked potatoes, but I made one in the oven with my meatloaf yesterday.

Yes, or twice-baked. That's how I've heard them labeled. I've had them at restaurants, but have never made them myself. I'm too lazy most of the time, which is why I microwave my 'baked' potatoes, rather than baking them in the oven.

@K E Gordon Hopefully that will work out for you. I haven't priced them in a while. I did price regular ovens yesterday, and it seems the prices have held steady from when I last looked about a year ago.

.....be sure to remove the plywood from the top of the stove:eek:. As for your Son, sometimes a "slow burn" goes with a microwave. Your suggestion to just replace the counter top unit, was the best way to go. Good luck.;)

I think a person with a pacemaker should not be near one, especially an older microwave that may have leaking door seals.

Is the roommate doing the installation, or the friend you were going to entice back to your place to install it? <=== That sounded a bit naughty, eh? I enter a lot of sweepstakes in the hope of winning a new microwave, a convection toaster oven, etc. It hasn't happened yet, but that doesn't mean it will. I hope you post a pic when you're finished, so we can see what a great job the installer did.

I may post a pic, and roomie and I were able to get it done together. He really is a pretty smart guy, it is just his physical limitations that make things difficult for him. I am grateful to be in the microwave biz, and to have the old one taken out of there..This new one is quite state of the art which is great!

Mine seems to be going downhill. Sometimes it works, other times not so much. I looked around yesterday, and saw a few decent priced ones, so that might be my next purchase. I don't need a huge one, just a replacement for the one I have that is sort of smallish. Glad you got yours installed and it's working.
