What's in a name and many of you put emphasis on the name,,,,I really liked my parent's names and I don't believe they took offense to be called by their names, from kids or anyone...

Again a lot of Rigid thinkers out there...

It’s not about the name and I’m not a rigid thinker. It’s about having respect for my parents; the people who had raised, loved and cared me.

Exactly. And any child of mine would not call me by my given name, at least where I could hear. (I'm sure they called me lots of things when they were in their room and mad. :D:D) Now they all have their own teenagers and paybacks are hell.

I used to tell my daughter when she was in her terrible teens," I hope when you get grown, you have a daughter just like you," I wonder if that's why she never had children? :)

Actually, we could laugh about it after she left her terrible teens. She told me one time that she was afraid to have children because I said that. :D

I think it shows a lack of respect, both ways. The parent/adult is not a peer. I have the same issue with children calling any adults by their first name. When did "Mister Brunner was my father's name...call me 'John'" become a thing? I think it's appropriate for that boundary to be drawn, and to erase it is for the selfish benefit of the arrested-development adult who wants to be a "cool kid," and to the detriment of the child who is being told that they have reached peak maturity because all of their adult examples are functionally 15 year old kids.

Kids need examples of progressing through adulthood, and I think it's being robbed of them. That's one reason so many seem to be lost these days.

My children are my pride and joy; they all turned out great so I did something right.

Well, I beg to differ. Anyone I give birth to is "MINE." And they will remain so until I die. :p Besides, they are all grown people now so I don't know why that matters.
