The same here, Beth. My MIL will be 90 soon and still wants to do her own banking and investments but doesn't know the first thing about funds and stuff. Yet despite my warning she doesn't want to make any changes to them although urgently needed 'cos she obviously does not know what she is doing.
My mother-in-law is 86 and has been extremely independent, but we are noticing a decline in her mental acuity. She is also losing her hearing and has a difficult time talking on the phone. She is still living in her own home and has home health care workers checking in twice a day, but we may be faced with making other arrangements in the near future.
Why are the health care workers checking in on her? Medical issues or mental acuity? My mother got Alzheimer's and we had no idea until one brother was talking to her on the phone and she had hallucinations about kids in her house.
She has several health issues; mainly degenerating disks and joint problems so she uses a walker. She refused to go into assisted living so the home health care was the next best option for daily welfare checks, to check her medications, etc. (She's stubborn and like a lot of us, wants to be in her own home.) My husband installed cameras inside most rooms of her home so he can "check" on her daily as well; she lives about 10 miles from us. And in a lame attempt to veer back on topic, I ordered a brush to use for cleaning my little Krups coffee grinder and it arrived today. The excitement is palpable. (Looks like it could double-duty as a pastry brush if the mood ever strikes.)
Everyone wants to be at home. Me, too. I don't know what to say about your Krupps brush. Congratulations?
Yeah, I'll pretty much have to be dragged kicking and screaming from my home. My youngest son says he's up for it but we shall see. The brush is fabulous! It should have its own thread! It's wooden handled with "natural" bristles, which makes me wonder which animal was plucked to provide such. Perhaps this is a fact I don't need to know.
It's a boring afternoon and I'm perusing coffee burr grinders on Amazon. Will the insanity ever end? Must head over to the long-winded "Coffee" thread.
I gotta think that if it's really in bloom like that, it's worth the money. I've known folks who messed with those things...keeping them in closets so as to spoof wintertime.
But... Lowe's has them for about $8. That would require me to put clothes on and drive 10 miles so maybe I'll send the hubby.
I found this smaller thermal carafe that I can carry upstairs for that extra 2 cups of coffee without going back downstairs to the kitchen. I think it might even fit in my Bunn, so I can brew a small batch directly into it. Ordered from Amazon and supposed to be here tomorrow.
