With this cold weather, my back has been hurting, and I thought maybe one of those heating pads for chairs would help, so today I looked them over on Amazon, and found one that is fairly affordable, and looks like it will work. It has two heat settings and ten massage points, and both the heat and massage should help my back and hip pain.
I have several cameras in my yard and have been concerned that someone would steal them, either because they want them or to prevent me from knowing they had been trespassing in my yard. I have cables that I can use to connect them to a tree and have been using zip locks to secure them, thinking that most thefts around here are impulse thefts (Oh, there's a roof rake - I need a roof rake) and that someone isn't necessarily going to have a knife or scissors with them but, of course, if they were concerned about having been captured on camera, they might come back with one. So these were cheap enough, and they are all keyed the same. As for the coffee, well, there's always room for coffee.
I made a small loaf of white bread to test my new bread machine this afternoon. It came out really tasty; I just had a warm slice with butter and a cup of coffee. The machine is a lot quieter than my old one, which sounds like an agitator washing machine when it's running. This machine has a notification for the user to remove the mixing paddle before the last rise, which I thought would be handy since that paddle always ends up baked into the loaf. So I followed the directions and removed the paddle, but the loaf still has a "navel" where the knob for the paddle is in the bottom of the pan. Might as well just leave the paddle in there.
Just ordered Stand Assist. It's a seat/chair pad that will help a stiff old dude like me get up right from sitting.
Oddly enough, Amazon tells me that this book will be here today. But when I click into the shipping tab, it tells me that it hasn't even shipped yet. I don't live in a place where we get same-day shipping so either they are wrong about it not having shipped, or it won't be arriving today. UPS has already been here and, although we do occasionally get more than one delivery from UPS on the same day, that doesn't happen often, and pretty much everything shipped by Amazon here comes via UPS. Last night, they showed that another item that I ordered at the same time was scheduled to arrive today, as well, but they have since changed the delivery date on that one to January 13, a week from now. For a brief period before Christmas, I was getting great delivery times from Amazon, but now they're back to at least a week, and often longer. It's not UPS either because they don't even show as having been shipped for a week after the order is placed.
My Amazon "subscribe and save" order is coming today. I skipped the cases of toilet paper and paper towels this month since I'm pretty much stocked up, so maybe the postman won't give me the side-eye.
As you've seen, the delays (vendors and carriers) area not due to order-processing backlog, it's a system problem. Perhaps their "extensible databases" exceeded their extensibility (and/or they don't have sufficient downtime to re-index them.)
When I lived near the NRA range at their HQ, I was in there 3-4 times a week. I went through several thousand rounds every month. I should have gotten my UPS guy a back brace for Christmas.
I think the carriers are still backlogged because now people are making returns. They were expecting record numbers of returns of online purchases this season so things may not smooth out until February or so.
Yeh, maybe things are so busy that the packages aren't even getting scanned as they move from one place in the queue to another. Recent events have killed some businesses while they've been a bonanza to others. I've mentioned my friend who owns a greenhouse/garden center. Every month in 2020 has been his best March/April/May/June/July/August/September/October/November/December since he opened over 30 years ago...by far.
I'm still having great delivery times from Amazon, but they use their own vans in my delivery area. Even my "subscribe and save" order came in an Amazon vehicle today instead of the USPS. I ordered a new pizza peel this afternoon and it will be here tomorrow.
My problem isn't with the delivery. Once they ship it, it generally gets here pretty quick, although a few things have disappeared. What I see more often is that, seven days or longer after I have placed the order, Amazon hasn't even shipped it yet. My guess is that because I place a lot of orders with Amazon, as I come across things that I need, they wait a week to see what else they can combine in the same package. While it doesn't seem like a good business model to make the people who order the most from you wait for the longest period of time, there still aren't very many alternatives.
Do you have Prime, Ken? Honestly, Amazon's logistics capability amazes me. I had a standing subscribe and save order coming today, and yesterday I ordered a flower pot. My box today had all the subscribe and save stuff AND the flower pot.
Yes. Before the COVID nonsense, everything was at least shipped within a day or two, although they rarely lived up to their two-day Prime promises. It seems to me that the COVID farce gave them cover for crappy service, and they've never returned to better service. I know that I have had things that I ordered a week apart arrive in the same box.
