Since in the coming months I may be sleeping in a recliner more often, I bought a new one and it is being delivered sometime tomorrow. It will go upstairs in our bedroom so I can still be close enough to hubby to annoy him with whining while he tries to sleep.
Recliner arrived. It is a Lane, made in the USA. Very comfy. My BIL came over to help my husband get it upstairs and take the old one out. Since I'm not supposed to lift over 10 pounds I'm useless.
This has worked out sort of OK. It has InfraRed Emitter Plates on it that sit just below the grates: The burners are underneath, and the little holes in the plates emit the heat on the infrared scale. The grates line up to cover the holes. These plates give an even heat across the entire surface with zero hot or cold spots, and they 100% eliminate flare-ups. The fat and juices hit the plates and release steam and smoke. I grilled my first burgers today and it worked fine, and they looked good. I had some concern because of the reviews weirdly being all over the place ("Never gets hot" versus "Always burns my food.") I was concerned that this is why the guy was selling it, but it worked fine for me. The real problem is that all of the residual fat & juices sit on these plates when you're through cooking. There's a grease cup for whatever might seep down in between the plates, but for the most part the stuff just sits there and does not burn off, even after being left on High for 10 minutes to clean it. It comes with a scraping tool to get down in the valleys between those IR emitter rises... ...but this does a marginal job at best. Some also say that the holes clog up over time and have to be cleaned out. This emitter plate feature drives a lot of the "Best grill I ever had" versus "I'll never mess with one of these again" reviews and videos. I can understand both, but those who love it say that the cleaning aspect is no big deal. And the darker the plates, the more efficiently they emit the IR heat. We'll have to see how it works out in the long run. I grill in batches so will only fire the thing up every month or so. If nothing else I can lift off the plates, let them soak in vinegar, then fire up the air compressor.
I've been heating with wood for 11 years. I just ordered my 3rd pair of fire-resistant gloves: You can reach in to the hot wood stove and move around logs, even if they're on fire (just don't hold on to them for too long.) The pair I had just wore out. They develop holes at the thumb. You find out the hard way. OUCH!!! dammit Since I was buying these, I got some stuff that's been lingering on my Wish List: 12" Kitchen Tweezers/Tongs Cocoa/Sugar/Flour Shaker "Done" testers for cakes, baked potatoes, veggies
How about a heads-up before you post something like that? I'm laughing my butt off right now. Kinda reminds me of that PTA meeting when I was in 3rd grade...
I have been participating in an online auction for the past couple of weeks. So far I won bids on 2 comforters, a man's watch, Black and Decker vacuum cleaner, Wi-fi extender and other stuff. These are all from business liquidations. Brand new and auctioned at 50% or less on retail price. They have a giveaway for buyers too. Numbers are drawn. I've won a Zenith Karaoke machine and a portable cooler. It's another way to shop during COVID.
I've done a few of those to buy some furniture for my church's kitchen. I also get emails for estate auctions and others, but I've not messed with bidding...I have enough "stuff," and none of them ship. That's pretty cool that you won a karaoke machine. We expect videos
That is so sweet. My El is in a tin canister which is pretty but I would like to have an urn. Something that I personally pick for his ashes.
Now I can pass my vintage ones along to three of my grandbabies. I'm sure their Dad will love me for it.
