I went shopping to the supermarket in the next small town about 15 minutes away.... and on the way I stopped off to take some pictures of the Vista....these pictures were taken just 5 minutes from the town centre , but if you were there it would seem like you were miles from the nearest town... This is the front of the one and only pub which sits on a river within parkland...... This is the rear of the pub overlooking the river.... This the weir that controls the levels of the water to prevent flooding, there are canal boats and Canal locks for narrowboats and barges to sail through... The weir workings....on the bridge
The canal towpath which runs alongside the Boating lake on the opposite side of the road.. ...and then into town for the small weekly market and Supermarket just 5 minutes drive from the river
Yes there are a few @Patsy Faye , but not in the huge numbers that some of the rest of the country is experiencing (probably can't afford this area lol)... and we certainly don't have gangs of them hanging around intimidating people... the ones who are here all seem to be hard working, and keep themselves to themselves... Shame you can't come and live over here chikadee.... it's only a couple of hours from you...
@Holly Saunders Beautiful Pictures. You captured the feeling of the area. I didn't realize the amount of canals in the UK till we visited Foxton locks by Leicestershire. Our youngest son's favorite TV show was 'Rosie and Jim' and when we toured a Narrowboat there, he kept calling for them to "come out and play!" Thank You again, you made my day!
Ooooh!!! @Holly Saunders you do have a way with cameras. Denise, (Happyfeet), can see through the lens as well. Me, not so much. What a beautiful place you live in. It looks so relaxing. There is one thing I've picked up on by seeing yours, and @Terry Page's travel pictures. Other countries seem to have thought of ways to incorporate visual and comfortable areas within the cities business community for the populous to enjoy. This country didn't seem to see a need for such areas until recently. Here in the southern states, you MUST have a car to go anywhere or do anything, and this doesn't encourage a strolling, walking, environment. I think this is a shame.
awww I'm very pleased you enjoyed the photos @Tim Burr , yes Foxton Locks way up in Leicestershire are a sight to be seen...but as you now know there are so many canals and waterways through our country...We have very many more and prettier ones here in the south than I showed in those pictures, I'll post more another day of the ones right here in my small market town and also the Annual narrowboat festival where Canal boats travel down here from hundreds of miles away and as you know narrowboats can usually only travel a max of 4mph on the canals, so these journeys can take days weeks....and yes you made me smile at the memory of Rosie & Jim and your youngest calling for them...awwww... so cute!!
Thank you Ina... we are lucky to live in a beautiful and relaxing part of the country..and I suppose because we're a small Island we have to combine the countryside within or on the edge of cities and commerical areas otherwise the whole country would be like Hong Kong, a concrete Jungle I suppose... Yes we've always understood that to go anywhere outside of the cities in the USA, and Australia you absolutely need a car...and often have to drive for hours just to get to somewhere we Brits would expect to get to in an hour or less for example the coast or the mountains(depending where you live) ....but here not only are they within easy driving distance often these places can also be reached easily by public transport too..trains, buses etc..
wow! Amazing pictures, Holly!! beautiful country.. and I love the architecture of the buildings. so unique.. ! its really nice .. thanks for showing the pics. you got anymore? I want to see more..!
Thankeee Loooweeezeee... that's very kind but it's only a tiny weenie part of anywhere near where I live... Do I have any more?.... errrrm.... just a few more..not very many ... Last time I looked I only had 40,000 thousand.... ( I'm serious) lol.... You'd be sorry you asked if I started posting them on here ...
