Hey all. Here's a fun game we used to play during rehearsals for summer music theatre. There would be hours on end of waiting to go on stage, so we'd sit around and someone would sing an obscure line from a musical and we'd have to guess what the name of the song was and what musical it was from. I'll start (and no cheating-- meaning no Google searches! This game dates back to the early '80s when Internet was not a household name, just use your memories!) "....a little modeling on the side, yes that's where I'll be at the Bonjour Tristes Brassiere Company...." Name the song, name the musical, and an extra point for naming the star who sang the song in the movie version. peace, revel.
I'm afraid I had to go to Google to find out because you had me stumped. I can honestly say that I've never heard of the song or the musical it came from.
Oh dear, here's another one for you all (and this one is worth double points....) "....she's the illegitimate daughter of the illegitimate son of the illegitimate nephew of Napoleon!"
Okay, a hint on that first one (another lyric from another song from the same musical) "....I'm in love, with a voice Plaza oh double four double three I talk to him and he just talks to me...." And there are actually a couple of songs from that same musical that are pretty well known "....it's time to wind up the masquerade just make your mind up, the piper must be paid...." (by the way, thanks Michelle, for not giving it away.... anyone out there got any idea? Next clue ought to cinch it....)
I did not have a clue. I thought it may be from "HMS Pinafore", but was way off! I don't cheat so I am wrong, but I will not give it away!
Hey all. Okay, last clue on the first one before the reveal: "The party's over it's time to call it a day no matter how you pretend you knew it would end this way It's time to wind up the masquerade just make your mind up, the piper must be paid...." "Just in time I found you just in time before you came my time was running low I was lost the losing dice were tossed my bridges all were crossed nowhere to go!" Male romantic lead played by Dean Martin in the movie. peace, revel.
The second one (illegitimate daughter etc...) is a real tough one, here's another lyric from the same that was moderately known: "Love is sweeping the country Waves are hugging the shore all the sexes from Main to Texas have never felt such love before...." Another clue, I think this one opened in the early '20s (I've got 1922 or 1923 in mind). The composer is pretty well known.... peace, revel.
Finally, just so we don't get discouraged because I chose two really tough ones, here's one that might be more familiar: "My father is a bastard, My ma's an S.O.B. My grandpa's always plastered, My grandma pushes tea. My sister wears a mustache, My brother wears a dress. Goodness gracious, that's why I'm a mess!" Brush up your Shakespeare.... also extra point if you can name who began writing the book for this one....but didn't complete the job, giving another the break of his life.... peace, revel.
Okay, time's up on the first one. The Song: I'm going back The Musical: Bells Are Ringing The actress: Judy Holiday The other two songs in the later clues were: The Party's Over Just in Time
