image.jpg My cheap wine way back when was a jug of Gallo Rhine wine.

Now the cheapest would be "two buck chuck" from Trader Joe's.

Two bucks for a bottle of wine at Trader Joe's??? That's even cheaper than a bottle of Night Train Express!

I don't really like wine but I drink 3 or 4 ounces of red wine almost every evening. I alternate between red muscadine, blackberry, and elderberry wines.

I drink mainly beer nowadays, though I am partial to the local church wine here which is less than $2 a bottle. Georgian wine especially Isabella is also lovely.
I think "National Drink Day" is every day here.

Something jumped out at me from that video...it was the Ansell's beer pump. For one thing, that dates it a bit and it also tells me that UB40 made the video in their home city. Ansell's was an old Birmingham brewery.

I had completely forgotten Ansell's beer Tom, that also reminded me of Davenport's another Birmingham brewery, with beer at home service, my father had a case delivered weekly.

I always preferred Banks's, the Wolverhampton beer, whenever I ventured to the West Midlands. Another brewery in Birmingham was M & B, whose beer I found horrible, with the sole exception of their Highgate Mild, which was brewed in Walsall.

@Terry Page, I loved the Davenport's video ad! Especially the housewife pouring a glass of "creamy nourishing stout" to smooth out the day's problems, hahahha. She was probably blotto when she first dropped the glass. I liked how Davenport's delivers, too. No going out in the rain. Also, I had never seen vintage British commercials before, so I appreciate this.

Tom and Terry, your posts about Birmingham breweries got me to wondering, are either of you from or familiar with the area? Some cousins of my father traced our family history and found the first of our family to come to America was born in Saint Martins Parish about 1630.

Yes Sheldon I am very familiar with the area, I was born in Worcester about 25 miles away and it's our nearest large city, Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK but not a very elegant place and really a conglomeration of smaller industrial areas, it also has one of the most disliked accents in England

Saint Martins is the original parish of Birmingham and located in the city centre (the Bull Ring ) now.
