@Martin Alonzo , my daughter and a group of friends are going for a week to Puerta Plata in January, have you heard anything about that place?
There being hit right now but probably little damage and they will have it all cleared up by then. If you would like I will PM my phone number to you and you can give it to them if they have any questions or need help.
Thanks, don't want to bother you...January is a ways off. The people that own the resort will probably be notified if there's a lot of damage. It belongs to my daughter's aunt in law. They waited til after Irma to buy their airline tickets and they did buy them last week.
They should. They're all staying in a house on the beach that has a full staff with butler and cook etc. I will be watching my 13 yr old grandson that week while his mom and dad have some R &R.
At the bottom of the article it says that these are just safety warnings but Perez was told by an Official who "ticketed" him that the problem better be fixed by the time he came back or there would be a fine. I think there is a time and a place for everything...and this was not the time or place to be even "hinting" at fines for violations like this.
We have had heavy rains off and on the rivers all over their banks and a lot of flooding.Wind damage here is at a minimum, We hear that there has been loss of life because of the rain and flooding. We are still having heavy rain as I am typing this. I think we are looking rain for a few days
It also pointed out that the stores were closed, so no one could just go to Best Buy or Lowes and get what they needed to fix it, nor were they given a specified amount of time, but that the next time he came by the problems needed to be fixed. A bad move, I think.
I see it was mainly for pools, electrical. But still this is beyond people's control. Give them some time.
I think warnings are okay....pools without a fence are dangerous for small kids...many drown...add downed lines to the pools and it's worse. Might be they were also just protecting their butts from being sued, I don't know. Nobody should be fined though until it's possible to do the fixes.
@Chrissy Cross I was thinking of the safety issue with pools but didn't mention it. You are right about that. In a crisis situation like this, you would think perhaps the city/county, whoever could assist people with providing that orange flexible fencing I have seen at construction etc zones. People may need assistance. And as you mentioned it's also a safety issue for the public.
@Ken Anderson I think it's appalling and glaringly illustrates the stand I've expressed concerning government run amok. Frank
It is still in the forming range right now, but with a 40% chance of turning into a hurricane, or at least a tropical storm, which will bring even more rain into Florida. In a couple more days, they should have a much better idea of what this storm will do and exactly where it would be headed if it does develop into a hurricane. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
No hurricane predicted. Possible tropical storm, but more like a subtropical or tropical depression. Thing is, most of Memorial Day Weekend looks like a real rainout. I'll say this again, and again, definitely mean it...…...can't wait until we leave Florida! Many, many love Florida, but we don't anymore. Our summers in Colorado were much better than here. That's the end of my rant.
