Everybody needs a love like that at least once in their life.

    I want it twice.

My true love in high school and I parted ways right after graduation. I always thought about the 'what ifs' and such. About 7 years ago - out of the blue - I got a message from him on Facebook. I have to say my heart skipped a beat. We have stayed in contact since then and hashed out all that went wrong back in high school and learned that we were destined to be forever friends. He knows all about my family and I know all about his. We have exchanged photos and chatted on the phone .. deep down we are both still in love but on a different level now .. the level that will last the remainder of our days.

Your post drew much interest, considering the number of "likes", suggesting many many folks have been there, seen that along with your experience.

Emotional pain lingers, as I well know. I truly thought, for example, that my first wife would remain my close confidante forever. Forever turned out to be 11 years, leaving me grieving more than I ever had, overshadowing family deaths, and other current stumbling blocks of the time!

Your soul is bared somewhat before us. Personal things seldom mentioned by most. We "see" the pain, believe me! Many "feel" it also, as we reminisce about personal problems past. This all helps one feel "close", part of the new party, exposed but unencumbered, an eerie feeling of help being proferred with no tangible source giving it. Almost unearthly. I feel that here, often. This moves me, as few considerations voiced by friends and family have not. It's scary, IMO, but greatly welcome.
