Try paying $54 (with taxes) to park on the waterfront in Seattle for less than four hours! We had someone who couldn't walk far, so we were stuck.
I'm at the Amtrak station in Portland waiting for our train. It won't be long, but I thought I'd check-in.
That is so awesome ! I am totally envious, @Ken Anderson ; traveling by train is my most favorite way and I miss being able to travel and being stuck here at home all the time. Pictures would be wonderful as you travel and see places that we have maybe never been to…… PS have a safe trip and a wonderful time and try not to freeze in the winter weather.
It was not Scandinavia, she is in the Netherlands, near Germany. Because of all the covid mask/vaccine requirements, it would take me a while to get everything done that they require for overseas air travel. We will see if it is maybe better next spring.
@Yvonne Smith why can't you travel by train? I was laid up with a broken back and in renal failure and I still managed to travel across the country by train. If you are disabled, they will give you a bedroom on the train at a discount with your own bathroom and you can have your meals delivered to the room.
I could travel easily by train, @Don Alaska , but we never go anywhere. Walmart and the fitness center is basically it, and the furthest we ever go would be the 5 miles to Robin’s house once or twice a year. I have considered taking a train trip out to Washington to visit my son who lives out there, but even with a senior discount, the round trip is really expensive; so if I went, I would have to take a bus instead.
A bus would be awful for a senior to travel that far. The "general admission" seats are not so expensive, and you could do it in legs, say go to New Orleans and stop, then go to Chicago and stop, then on to Seattle with perhaps one stop in between. A rail pass would be $499 each for travel anywhere in the country. You can check the Amtrak website for that. That would just be a seat, but you can stop I think ten times--5 times each direction.
Outside of Amtrak North Station in Boston. When it comes to big cities, I much prefer Boston to New York City.
We went coach this time (last time we had a sleeper), but it cost less than $50 round-trip on a super-saver, and there were only about six people in our car.
