Snakes cannot die until sundown, according to local legend in the Missouri Ozarks. My nephew's new wife informed us of that fact. Ask, and I will attach a pic of the Copperhead I shot at about 6PM, as we returned from our walk out on the road. It slithered around a scant 2 feet from our own feet, so I chose to shoot it. I'm not a snake lover. A favorite fishing spot used to be overrun with snakes. They even bit on fishing lures sometimes. I found them in my boat when I went to use it. Duck blinds in the area were favorite hangouts for serpents. So, I became a snake hunter for a few summers. I bought the quietest .22 short cartridges I could find, so as to not disturb anyone fishing, and roamed the sloughs, ponds and chutes in my boat, popping away at every snake I could find lounging about. I never shot any if someone was fishing within sight. After a couple summer, the snakes were thinned out considerably.

I think we can continue to answer earlier questions as long as it doesn't get too confusing, since not everyone is here everyday. Being an instant gratification kind of guy, I guess I would choose the early part of life. Afterward, I would still have the memories. As for the OP question that I posed, I would wait on the snake. If it took too long, I might even try to move it, depending on the type of snake. But then, I feed squirrels and build dens for the bears in the forest, and I once let a black widow live beneath my bathroom sink until she had a couple of thousand babies.
@Shirley Martin ,Hummm ten years. I've had some happy times, but I don't think they add up to a total of five years, so that means I should get the rest now at a time when it doesn't take much to make me happy to see each new day.
I'd drive right over that snake and if he wasn't dead. I'd back up and run over him again until he was. Biblically speaking women and snakes have been enemies since that "satan snake" deceived Eve into eating the fruit God forbid her to eat. From that time on God said to that snake that he and the woman would be enemies, and her offspring and the snakes will be enemies too. Genesis 3:15. God also said we and our offspring would crush the snake's head, while the snake would try to crush our heel. If I have the advantage I will definitely crush that head every time!
I used to get em with my lawnmower. kept my lawn thick and tall and every so often I'd suck one up into the blade. pieces of snake flying everywhere. also went to work one morning opened the door to the space I worked in and there was a small one coiled up on the rug and hissing at me. called the Manager told him I don't do this kinda work

No, No, No...did you ever see that movie with all the poisionous spiders taking over a town and killing all the town's citizens? You are blessed that those spiders didn't crawl all over you while you were sleeping and inject you full of their toxic venom. After having been bit 4 times by a Wolf Spider here at my daughter's in Texas and suffering terrible pain that I thought would never go away....I feel about spiders like I do about snakes...it's them or me, and if I see them first, they are dead meat!
I was nineteen then, and sharing an apartment with a friend. When we went into the bathroom, we'd check to see where the spider was. As long as it was always in the cabinet under the sink, we were safe, that is until she had thousands of babies. We then evicted her on a newspaper, along with as many of her babies as we could, and sprayed for the rest, as they were climbing all over the place. That was the end of having a black widow as a roommate. It wasn't the mom's fault though. Can you imagine keeping track of a couple of thousand babies?
This is the first time I've got to this thread. Allow me to get back to page 1 for the philosophical question about that snake blocking the road. But first, let me relate this anecdote that happened late last year. My husband and I reached home and as our habit would sound the horn. While waiting for the gate to be opened, the headlight of the car was focused on the road ahead where a big snake was crossing. It was maybe more than 5 feet long with a girth of about 3 inches to my estimate. The snake came from the vacant lot beside our property and going to the vacant lot on the opposite side of the road. My husband had regretted that it was night time so there was no way he could get a video of that incident. Back to the snake that blocks the road, let's assume that I am in a bit of hurry so what I'd do is to sound the horn. I don't care if the snake is not afraid of the car's horn or if it is deaf. And I would move the car slowly to the direction of the snake so it will feel threatened. From what I know, snakes are afraid of humans and other big animals so maybe it would see the car as a big animal with a strange roar. So there.
Mr brown recluse also know as the fiddleback and violin venom can cause acoma, severe pain and death. indigenous to the south and midwest characteristic starts with the red or black bump then grows a red circle which is extremely painful when touched. it kills skin cells and if left unattended can eat the flesh to the bone. i know ive had several bites including a trip to the ER to have one lanced. we haven't seen these around in years but that does not mean they are gone for good. they hide in the darkest places in your home. then at night come out and visit you while you sleep. the red circle is the warning to seek medical help now !!!
