Hollywood adventure/horror films have these giant prehistoric reptiles bellowing, roaring, and shreiking as they crash through the Jurassic jungles, destroying everything in their path. However, 65 million years ago, and incident occurred that killed off the following giant reptiles: Dinosaurus Brontosaurus Stegosaurus Tyrannosaurus Justplainsaurus. Thus, there are no records of any kind, including radiocarbon dating, that can tell us anything about these huge creatures except for archeological reconstruction of their skeletons. Neither Hollywood nor Science has any idea of the vocal sounds these monster reptiles made, if any. Looking at the size and habitat of the great Dinosaur, it seems unlikely that they had any voice at all, or even needed one, like our big, tall Giraffe with no voice! The same goes for the other "super lizards", even though Hollywood has them roaring and bellowing as they stomp through the jungle tearing limbs from trees. I'd like to see a movie about those prehistoric reptiles without those huge phony sounds that are merely guesses as to what kind of voices they had, if any! Alley Oop? Hal
I think that probably Hal has a good point here, about the dinosaurs not making all of that loud noise that we always have them doing in movies. Most reptiles/lizards are totally silent, and it makes sense to me that these would be too, except for possibly mating noises at night like frogs do in the spring. Movies always do things dramatically, and horses are another good example. In the movies, the horse might be traveling on dirt; but you hear the hoof beats thundering along anyway, and the horse is ALWAYS whinnying, which is not something that they would normally be doing, at least at the time they have them doing it in the movies. They are fun to watch, but certainly movies are almost never factually correct about what they are portraying, especially when it comes to history ad nature.
