Just another fading celebrity, struggling to remain relevant. Can't have that horrible inflammatory word "Dixie" on anything to "trigger" a snowflake. (I went to school with a girl named Dixie; I guess she's up the creek with that name now.)

Does this apply to song lyrics? "away, away, away down south in Dixie"
Away, away. away down south in....... an unnamed southern state.

Funny you should say that; one "class clown" back in high school thought he was hilarious singing that to her. Typical moron.

"Chapel of Love" was their most recognizable hit.

The class character of police violence
    https://africasacountry.com/2020/06/the-class-character-of-police-violence

I follow news from other countries, most notably as of now Hong Kong, Belarus and South Africa.
This writer is clearly a socialist but makes some telling points. There a tidbit about Trevor Noah, the black talk show host that took me aback.
Opinions about how BLM has failed to become a coherent political force with definite goals are very interesting.
Also this nice little quote from Fred Hampton, the Black Panther who was murdered by the FBI.

“We don’t think you fight fire with fire best, we think you fight fire with water best. We’re going to fight racism not with racism, but we’re going to fight with solidarity. We say we’re not going to fight capitalism with black capitalism, but we’re going to fight it with socialism.”

Now, if the last word 'socialism' was instead 'capitalism with a little socialism' , that bad ole Black Panther wouldn't seem scary at all.

A quote from A Gentleman's Agreement:, probably my favorite quote from anywhere:

I suddenly want to live to be very old. Very.
I want to be around to see what happens
The world is stirring in very strange ways.
Maybe this is the century for it.
Maybe that's why it's so troubled.
Other centuries had their driving forces.
What will ours have been when men look back?
Maybe it won't be the American century after all...
or the Russian century or the atomic century.
Wouldn't it be wonderful...if it turned out to be everybody's century...
when people all over the world--free people--
found a way to live together?
I'd like to be around to see some of that...
    even the beginning.
I may stick around for quite a while.

A white woman holding a Black Lives Matter sign is arguing with a black woman wearing a Keep America Great hat and holding a Thank You Trump sign.

I'm reminded of the lyrics to I'd Love To Change The World by Ten Years After.

    Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more?

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

    Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

    World pollution, there's no solution
    Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

I'm not too concerned about my grammar here. There are some hanging sentence phrases instead of complete sentences. Don't worry me about it.

    Black People Have Real Grievances

They don't have to do with systemic racism from the police.
    T
The state welfare policies which made it illegal for a father to live with his wife or partner and their children. Those policies destroyed the black family, the basis for a healthy black culture. Blacks would have fared better with no welfare system in place.

The schools which teach sexual promiscuity as a healthy option for the very young. We're not talking a little kissing and groping as we all explored at that age. Full copulation is what is taught as the goal for a liberated teenager. Not having sex before marriage or at least until one is a relative adult is seen as repressive of sexuality. Hence the high number of pregnant 14 year old girls and families with no father - permanent clients of the welfare state..

Downward pressure on wages from several sources, which make it difficult for a worker to earn enough for a decent life.

I've named three sources of grievance. Notice how they are intertwined and work together to keep minorities down. These policies weren't put in place by southern cracker racists. They were put in place by supposedly non-racist liberals.

If blacks and other racial minorities in enough numbers understood these things they'd abandon the democratic party and BLM for good. Comments?

This happened to ALL families of all races, not just to black people, @Dwight Ward . It had a lot to do with any kind of family unity, it was just happening sooner with white people than to black people.
When my kids were little , and my husband was out of work in the winter, we were not eligible for food stamps or any financial help, simply because we were married.
A lady who went to our church who had five children, lived with her husband, but was not legally married to him, was eligible for all of the benefits available at that time.

Black people were still families for longer, but the welfare system that favored unwed mothers brought them into the single-parent household, too. Now that we have an influx of Hispanics, we are seeing that they are also doing the same thing to claim the government benefits.

Since there are requirements for employers to hire minorities, they were given jobs whether they qualified or not, simply to fill the quota. This is not to say that most of them were not qualified, but that they system allowed this to happen.

We're seeing things from two perspectives, both of them right, I think. I remember the subsidized housing in my town being 95% black. We didn't have that many poor whites here who relied on the system. Most of the single white women with kids found places with relatives. Kids had no father around but they did have Grandma and Grandpa to help raise them. These are my impressions and they may not reflect the reality of what was actually happening.

While I agree with all of those points, and I won't even argue that these may have affected some black communities more than white communities, but I don't know why it would necessarily be a matter of race. There are an awful lot of white people who have been placed in the same positions.
