Substituting sausage for the ground beef, sounds like a good idea!

    Ever tasted Shoo-Fly Pie?

A song has been written about it! (1945) Here is the first verse:

    "Shoo-fly Pie and Apple Pan-Dowdy
Makes your eyes light up and your tummy say Howdy.
    Shoo-Fly Pie and Apple Pan-Dowdy,
I never get enough of that wonderful stuff!"

    It was recorded by:

    Bing Crosby
    Dinah Shore
    Ella Fitzgerald
    Guy Lombardo.

    That's all...

As to the actual reason for the name, it is supposed that the pie and its sweet, sticky filling had to cool outside and it attracted lots of flies and other bugs. Hence it was called SHOO FLY pie!

    The recipe sure sounds good.

    Bette Davis’ Red Flannel Hash

    2 cups cooked corned beef
    3 cups cold boiled potatoes
    1 1/2 cups cooked beets.
    salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup or more of cream

Chop all ingredients and combine in a large bowl. Season to taste and moisten mixture with cream. Place in a hot buttered skillet. Stir and spread evenly in pan. Brown slowly over medium heat. Serve with poached eggs on top.

Kale Chips. They're supposed to be crunchy. Looks easy. I would imagine all that matters is the spices. Could you use a hair dryer as a substitute for a salad spinner? ;)

    Rice Pilaf.

My husband served this to me when we were dating along with baked chicken and broccoli. It was just like the picture too. I was very impressed. :D

There's 2 varieties of shoofly pie wet bottom and dry bottom. My wife always used to make he wet bottom ones. She'd make one for me and one for the rest of the family. But that one for me gave me a big bottom so she stopped making them.

I love rice pilaf. Introduced to it by an Indian friend long ago.

I'd like to try making Cajun rice, or dirty rice. Dirty rice and coleslaw are about the only things I like at Bojangles. The local Church's Chicken has Cajun rice. It tastes the same. I think they both order it from the same supplier.

I saw a recipe for butternut squash lasagna, and we have butternut squash. I am using Brussels sprouts instead of spinach to give it more “body” , and I am making it in a skillet instead of using the oven, since it has to cook covered anyway.
I will report back after we have some and let you know what we thought of it.
Here is the regular recipe that I adapted it from.
