The lake behind our house is now full of spawning Red (Sockeye) Salmon and is causing a stir. Eventually, they will all die and the place will stink to high heaven due to rotting fish. There is also a cow moose and young calf hanging around and keeping us confined to the house. MY theory is that the moose are avoiding the bears who are downstream eating fish. The bears probably wouldn't bother the moose while the fish are in, but I feel the moose are probably nervous with a calf and predators around. We have to drive the tractor to check the greenhouses and gardens (which are protected with electric fence) until the moose move on. The bears seldom bother us if we stay away from where they are feeding.
